DWP employment waiting list

Hiu Kath
Leaving aside the ankle issue for the moment because in a month's time or so it won't be an issue?
I suppose the question here is how will you feel in 12 month's time if you know you only have 6 month's until possibly unemployment looms! Then possibly back on the dole when you know you could have been permanently emplolyed as a AO.
Only you can answer this but there is a saying a bird in the bush is worth two in the hand!!!0 -
Hello...
Has anyone who has been given a start date had any paperwork in the post to confirm this? I got 'the call' last Tuesday and was told by the lady on the phone they would send some out but they haven't...
So it seems I'm still waiting...
I just got a letter this morning confirming my start date of 13th for training (they rang last week), and also offering me Birkenhead JCP as my place of work after training.
There is an attached form to sign/return with SAE asking whether I accept or regect the position (hmmm - wonder which bit to sign...).
So it's official - funny to see it in writing, after the phone call part of me wondered whether I'd imagined it!
So - final timescale:
Sent off application - 18th March
Interview - 16th April (already did tests on previous exercise)
Success letter - 7th May
"The Call" - 22nd June
Confirmation letter - 1st July
Start - 13th July
A week shy of four months, probably about average given some of the accounts here, and shorter than some for sure.
It must have been difficult for the area recruitment manager, waiting all this time to start a list while the infamous "checks" were undertaken - and it's by no means over yet.
Molly175/Sweet Wallace - really hope you get the office you want, I'm pleased with B'head as it's not too far on the train for me. I'll let you know how training goes...0 -
Hi KathB
What a dilemma!!! I only have one to choose from if it ever comes up.
Obviously it's your decision. But if I could give you some advice. The pemananent position is the less of the two due to the grade, pay and travel expenses incurred and even though it says 'permanent' no job is that anymore - those days have gone.
The OE job is higher grade, higher pay and less travel. In 18 months if the job market has improved then you'll have a better chance of getting a new one especially with your JCP experience. If it hasn't improved then there's a good chance your contract will be extended.
Only my opinion obviously but that's the way I would view your options. Hope it helps you decide.0 -
Hi All
Just had a very very worrying/alarming call from the "Vacancy Holder". To recap letter dated 26 April I am pleased to inform you that you have been successful... NOT WAITING LIST. All checks have been carried out and references taken up.
Apparently I have now been put on a waiting list yes thats right a waiting list and if they don't contact me thats where I stay for a total of 6 months and then the list is discarded. What a way to treat people.0 -

WHAT!!!!?? Aren't you the poster that told us all of the dwp contacting your employer twice?! If that was you and you have now been placed on a waiting list then all i can say is WOW!!! Disgusting recruitment process! One day I will be a [STRIKE]respectable[/STRIKE] Civil Servant.Until then, I will be a secret MSE poster :shhh:0 -
Hi Landslide Victory,
Thanks for your thoughts. I'm veering towards Manc job simply as you say, more exp gained etc. Also both jobs hold an amount of travel for me as I'm in Chorley. And, if any EO perm positions come available am hoping that I'd be in with a shout due to already doing the job, whereas in an AO position, I'd be competing against EO's.
I'm shattered and feel like I've done a days work writing down pros and cons for this all morning.
Really appreciate your thoughts.
Kath.x
Hi Kath
Glad my advice is of some help to you. It's seems the EO position might be the right choice.
Which office in Manchester is it you went for? I'm waiting for one in Greater Manchester.

Yes contacted employer twice, employer has advertised my job and has applicants, employer keeps asking me am I leaving or what. They contacted my two referees and obviously done a CRB check. Probably now going to have to tell employer I amprobably now staying. Words fail me!0

Hi Julie,
Don't get disheartened, the job I've had the call about today in Manc did exactly the same to me.

Hi Kath
Did they actually make it clear to you that there was a lot from a local recruitment exercise that were in front of you who would all be offered positions first and what was left over would be offered to your list and if there wern't enough jobs well we won't contact you and then we throw the list away and start again!!!!
What an utterly deplorable way to carry on.0 -

Thank you, well done on getting the office you wanted, hope your training goes ok, let us know how you get on.
Im still waiting, getting really worried now as most people in Merseyside on the same assessment day as us have been given a place. Beginning to wonder if there is a job for me....
Not sure whether to phone again, called quite a few times last week to no avail!
Still keeping fingers crossed! x0 -
it seems from reading alot of the posts, it is a matter of waiting, time etc etc etc. when i had my interview in london we had to complete a slew of forms, disclosure scotland, health background checks, references. i applied on may 24, interview 22 june, success letter received 27 jun so maybe could have a job offer by sept if all goes well.0
