I think that Disclosure Scotland are fine and get most turned around well within 5 days. I think it's the work shy incompetents on the checking team that cause the hold ups!

After months of chasing, Disclosure Scotland have finally confirmed they have recieved my CRB from DWP. BUT........ that DWP hadn't filled out that they where paying for it so have sent it back!

I had already completed a CRB at my original interview in April!

What a joke! Whenever you phone up Newcastle you either get:

    A: No answer
B: Answer but no one in checking team (gone home)
C: No answer from checking team

I am now having to undertake interviews over 100 miles away as I now do not believe I will ever be employed by the DWP.

I am going to let them continue with their ridiculously long checking, and if I get another job in the meantime, will tell the DWP exactly why I am rejecting their offer.

No wonder the country is in such a bloody mess!

    Hi Murphy S

Up to now has been bad enough but just wait until all references have been taken up etc and it is out of Newcastle's hands. Then the real fun starts. You think (according to their web site) you will be contacted to agree a start date. WRONG you can now get put on a local waiting list for a few months and they will contact you if they want to offer you a job. If they don't then they will not bother contacting you at all and just throw the list away and start another recruitment exercise. Good isn't it?

Just to update anyone waiting for Birmingham, i called Newcastle today as i had another interview this afternoon and really hate messing people about (albeit a 4 week temp role). I explained i was checking on my progress and mentioned i sent my crb back last week. This is apparently the last bit of checking they do and you should hear very shortly, Jan even said in the next week!!! lets hope so... anyway just to say i have been told all sort of diff things from newcastle in the last four months i.e. it will be months and months before we even start checks (i got a letter two weeks later saying they were starting checks), then that the checks were taking 30-40 days (and it has taken less than 20) and finally that i might be waiting another 6 weeks or more and/or put back on a waiting list (and today i have been told i should hear by next week) so to cut a long story short i would just try and hang in there and its probably best to ignore whatever Newcastle tell you!!

    Fingers crossed for everyone :)

Molly I sent you a PM, but i was on this recruitment interview 16th April, I was told I was 44th on list and got the call yesterday, you are 45, so dont give up hope, your call will be any time now.
Has your CRB come back yet?, mine was sent to me in error, and then i was asked for it twice, once by Salford and then again by Newcastle.
Due to my hold I wont start till 3rd August.
Forgot to ask where the training was or how long for, Zucchini Athletic, can you tell me?

My training will be at Wallasey JCP and goes on for 3 weeks - which makes sense if you are starting on 3rd Aug.

My last signing on day will be next wed - I'm seeing a Personal Adviser who's been really helpful (been observing his methods, that will be me soon!) hoping to find out about the discreionary fund for clothes etc.

    Hello...

Has anyone who has been given a start date had any paperwork in the post to confirm this? I got 'the call' last Tuesday and was told by the lady on the phone they would send some out but they haven't...

So it seems I'm still waiting...
A friend of mine was told the same and just turned up on her start date at 9. She never rec any letter and has now been there for 8 weeks.

I am in the same recruitment exercise as Julietormesby (irc58380)

    To Recap

    Timescale

    Application sent 20/03/09
    Numeracy & Literacy tests 17/4/09
    Interview 18/4/09
Successful (not waiting list) letter received 26/4/09

I have made many phone calls to Newcastle all of which left me re-assured that my checks had been completed and it was just a matter of waiting for "the call". My employer has been contacted and as a result is, understandably, wanting to know when I will be leaving, yet yesterday I was told by the vacancy holder in Norwich that I am on a waiting list, and that my list is behind a different list in merit order. This whole recruitment process is shambolic to put it politely, I am getting fed up of being treated like this. Ever since I was told in writing that my application had been successful I have just been eager to start, I stopped looking for other jobs as I didn't want to get one only to have to leave for the DWP job, I have had to declare my car SORN as I cant afford the tax and MOT until I start a new job (I only work part time at the minute) and now they tell me I may not even get a job. It's disgusting and I will be going into my local Job Centre Plus tomorrow to speak to someone there about it.

I totally concur. Especially when you read the DWP website:- typical recruitment process says "conditional job offer subject to pre-appointment checks" "agree start date". Nothing about being put on a waiting list!

I honestly wonder how on earth this complies with the Civil Service Recruitment Code!

I chose 3 from list, Worsley, Salford Quays and Eccleston as all nearest for me. Sue couldn't tell me which office I'd be posted at yet. But did ask about hours due to people mentioning 8pm finishing, she said flexi 7.30am to 6pm but due to position I needed to be there for core hours 9 to 5pm Asked if could do flexi also to cut out standing in traffic, she said if work was there it would be no problem. No mention of 8pm or Saturdays.

Which recruitment day did you attend?

    Kath.x

    Hi Kath
My recruitment day was for EO at one of 8 offices in the outer Greater Manchester area (Rochdale, Oldham, Bury, Bolton, Leigh, Wigan, Stockport & Ashton). The tests/interviews were at the City Of Manchester stadium w/c March 23rd. Your's is obviously for central Manchester given the locations you have mentioned.

has anyone been able to contact newcastle in the last two days? If so could you post a number please?

    Hi JDF
From reading your posts I'm on the same recruitment exercise as you IRC57875.
