I don't think you need to be overly concerned, at least not beyond being
mildly annoyed at the speed with which DwP take to get in touch with you.

I'd been trying to get a job with DwP for c. 4 months...

On one particular application - and the one that did
happen to be successful, I was kept waiting for several weeks too.
Like many wings of the civvie service, it seems, to put it kindly,
    not very efficient!

I currently work for the DWP as an AO work school hrs, I had my offer for EO this week, and was told that it was a full time position, no negotation on part time. Not looking forward to working full time again, but have accepted it rather than lose the job.
Are you sure they didn't just mean training was full time because you cant negtiate that part but I thought you could for your job role. I put down 25 hours per week when I filled in my form at the interview, like you I work at the DWP and I got an e-mail to say all my checks are clear and I am waiting for the business to get in touch with my start date.

Couple of people in my training class are part time. Just full time for the training. They were worried like you that they would not get part time hours after training. No problem with getting them. They seem to have a very flexible policy once you start the 'real job'
  • Hi

To all of you that have had the 'call' offering you a start date and location etc. Do you know if the call was made from the recruitment team in Newcastle or was it from the local vacancy holder?

    Many thanks

I got a call from the vacancy holder but it was not the jobcentre I will be working in. It was another local jobcentre that called me.

Has anyone of you kind people done a telephone role play interview and has any tips it would be very helpful thanks.

    Hiya

I did a telephone role play a couple of months ago... and I don't want to scare you but I found it very nerve wrecking.!

The whole exercises lasts about 20 minutes in total, at the beginning you are given 10 minutes to read through a booklet containing information about the company you work for. This is all pretend information and you will later be receiving a call from a customer about the information in this booklet.

My company was a council who offered health services to eldery, disabled, etc... the booklet said what they offer, to who etc... To be honest there was soooooooo much information I couldn't take alot of it in in the short space of time.

You then get a call from a customer and you have to answer the questions... you can answer them all so you have to inform that you will pass his query on, take ALL his details (phone, name, address) etc... inform him that somebody will call you back ...

After the phone call you then have 5 minutes to write a summary about the phone call, as if you were going to pass this onto a colleague, so you have to include everything you've told the customer and all their details.

Also there will be somebody sat next to you all the way through this marking you... like i say, very nerve wrecking!

All I can say is, there isn't much you can do to prepare for this... but just stay calm, read as much info as you can from the booklet, make notes, be professional and hopefully you'll be ok.

Let me know if you want to know anything else :-) Good luck!

I emailed Newcastle and was told that I would know where I was going before they did so I take this as the name are passed to the post holder and they make the call. Don't know how this works when I have ticked 5 places I dont mind working unless one person is in charge of all the places within the recruitment area:huh:

Basically you cannot do anything until the day of the role play. You will be given a booklet and have to try remembering everything from that. You will need to tell the client the information from the book but over the phone. Mine went downhill as it was too much info to take in and not enough time. There will be 2 people in the room with you, one marking and the other will be the client.

Try remebering as much as you can

Does anyone have the number/email for George Platt?? Thnaks
  • Hi At150

The phone number I have for George Platt is 0191 2183381 BUT this was the number before the office move. I have been dealing with Jamie Fender who I think works with George his number is 0191 216 8157. Sorry I do not have an e-mail address.
  • Hiya, I understand how frustrated you must feel, i've been at it for weeks!!!!! carry on calling newcastle with an update, if no one picks up call a diff number and ask them to put you through to Jan. Still no news reagrding the London EO vacncy ( getting really p**d off). Think i'll speak to the Team Manager on monday. You should do the same! keep us posted

I think I have finally had some good (ish) news!!!!!
Just received a letter with ref 57186. The post that I had no info on whatsoever. The letter stated that all permanent posts had been filled but there were 18 month FTA posts available and would I call Manchester head office asap to arrange details.

I was initially left with a slightly sour taste in my mouth. It must be the only job I have ever applied for that has left me feeling disappointed even after being accepted.

I have to call them on Monday now but I will keep you posted. The bottom line is this. Newcastle do not have a clue as to when you might be posted. My letter came from my local Manchester/Salford office. Calling Newcastle every other day just left me more confused than before.

A phone call would have been nice though just to say congrats or something!!!

I guess I should be happy. Yey.

If anyone else has been offered IRC 57186 or any others in Manchester let me know. Good Luck to everyone. Looks like we are all starting to see the light at the end of the DWP tunnel.
