That's what I've been thinking. Capita is a very good example of what happens when the private sector gets it's hands on Govt business. Their only aim is to make profit so they do the cheapest, shoddiest job. My own small example of them is that they didn't send me a password for a deadline test (I only found it by following various links on a reminder email sent 12 hours before the deadline) and took twice as long marking a sift test as the DWP in-house team did. There are various other examples of shoddiness on this and similar threads, including losing someones entire records and people having to do interviews twice.

In my previous life in Whitehall, I saw so many examples. Not just Capita, various contracted bodies who pocketed tax payers money for, eg, IT support, estate management etc and gave back the barest minimum. This meant fewer jobs for civil servants, high turnover of untrained temps, a culture of 'marking down' anyone who criticised it and wholesale waste of taxpayers' money, but hey Gordon, it looked better on the cooked books.

According to the PCS DWP part of the union website DWP intend privatising some of the work of the JOB Centre I think they said the long term unemployed parts. According to the website the DWP already have the names of the companies who will undertake the work (I think it said contracts have been signed) and these are named. I think it said all of this starts in the next few months.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi

I am also on the waiting list for Essex. I chose Southend as first choice and Rayleigh second choice.

What part of Essex did you apply for? I applied for IRC56347 and had my interview at the Westcliff Hotel on the 6th March.

All of my checks have been cleared, waiting for a call like everyone else. So frustrating!

    Hi Snowy,

I am further North in Essex... Applied for Colchester, Harwich and clacton.. IRC 56344.. Did my interviews in Colchester Town Hall... Can't believe this was all back in February!

I have been told all of my checks are complete, except the CRB that has, (obviously), been held up through complications...

I have rung the original number on my letter a few times now to try and confirm if they have received my second lot of forms but I'm not getting any answer now.. is anyone else having this problem?

    Hi Chi Chi

I have read your earlier posts regarding the problems you have had regarding your address history for CRB.

I am really sorry as it adds to the stress you must be feeling. I hope it is sorted out for you by next week.

I do know that DWP wont offer any positions until everyones checks have been completed and I have not seen any posts regarding people starting work in your area, correct me if I am wrong!

I received a call last tuesday and start this Monday. Received a letter this morning confirming everything.

I hope you also receive your call soon!:o

Incorrect - DWP are starting people without waiting for their checks to be completed. I started as an EO on Monday in such a position, as have other posters to this thread.

They may have started people who applied for EO positions before checks have been completed as the training is longer for you, and JC can work around you not being able to access the mainframe computer systems before checks are completed.

AO positions are mainly Computer based and the training is around 1 week so I do not envisage AO positions being offered until they have CRB clearance, as you can't do your Job without accessing the system, and you cant access the system without CRB clearance.

In your area they must of been desperate for staff and are able to work around you as yours is an EO position not AO.

Chi Chi has applied for a position as an administrative officer and the checks do need to be completed for everyone who is due to be posted in these Jobs. I was not incorrect in my previous post.

When I worked for DWP as an AO 2 years ago, I could not start work until the checks had cleared.

I also see from an earlier post by yourself, you stated you have started work but are not able to access the computer systems before they have CRB clearance for you!

    That's cleared that up then!

Good to hear from someone locally. I hope you get some good news soon. I keep chasing Newcastle, I have two numbers as I was accepted for two posts.

I remember now even at interview they said that jobs should be opening in April!!!!! Yeah right.

Anyway spoke to a Rachel Merilo in Newcastle. She first stated that I was on the main list but that was then split into 2 lists and I was not on either of them. What does this mean I asked.

She replied, I don't understand why?? I then became even more frustrated and asked if she could put me on one of the lists but she just said that's not possible!!

What are these people on? I asked her to help and call me back. She called back within 10 mins saying all of my checks have come back fine(even though my referees have not been contacted) and to just wait. She said they have to wait until they have enough people with checks cleared before they can post anyone.

    All sounds suspect to me.

As for the other IRC lead by a Jan Treleaven in Newcastle, she doesn't even answer her phone... EVER.

I will keep persevering and will update if I get any useful info.
Hiya, I understand how frustrated you must feel, i've been at it for weeks!!!!! carry on calling newcastle with an update, if no one picks up call a diff number and ask them to put you through to Jan. Still no news reagrding the London EO vacncy ( getting really p**d off). Think i'll speak to the Team Manager on monday. You should do the same! keep us posted

    Hellooo!

Thanks for that. Great news on your EO postion for Surrey. I can understand you wanting London EO postion more though. I kind of wish I'd applied for London area aswell. Just think of all those people coming through the doors in London who need our help. I bet the days just fly by for the staff in the Job Centres there...

    Aaliyah ;)

PS: I also popped on GOOGLE last night for some more information.
Just type in PCS DWP (as mentioned on an earlier post somwhere). It tells you all about SALARY, TRADE UNION, CIVIL SERVICE etc.
PPS: And if anyone one wants to know about NATIONAL SALARY BANDS FOR DWP, just pop onto GOOGLE again and type in the above. It gives several links to choose from. :)
    Heyyy,

Yea im kinda relieved i've got a start date for the Surrrey EO thou travel expense would cost me a bomb as i live in inner london ( was desperate for a job after leaving my last job, my last gov job turned out to be sux lol). Still awaiting results for the London position, I decided i'll speak with the Team Manager on mondays regarding this, it's insane waiting for interviews results for 2months. I appreciate Newcastle are extremely busy but still doesn't justify why it should take 2months to get interview resuts.

Make sure you keep a track on how your checks are progressing, try calling after 2weeks just to see the progress, ask for the checking team in newcastle. Keep us posted!!

    Hiya,

The peeps we speak to every so often at newcastle recruitment team or checking team have Team Managers. You're awaiting your checks to be completed right? in that case speak with one of the team member in the checking team there and ask them details of the Team Manager ie name and telephone number. I've been reading your posts here and I do really feel for you, so make sure you do that. In my case I've got my start date for the EO in Surrey but still no news for The EO in London (IRC58272) despite waiting for almost 2months. I've been waiting and waiting, been fed with different information each time I call up the recruitment team.

    Still staying positive lol
