No probs - hope you enjoy your new job!

Newly advertised jobs with DWP show higher salarys (are the goverment paying more for DWP people in current economic climate ?? -- hrmm seems so!)
(check new job vacancies on DWP website)

Money for clothes through JSA? Huh? Who said that? Ask your line manager about it and let us know here on MSE!

Good news for me = Disclosure Scotland sent off my CRB back to DWP and hopefully I should get a copy by next week from DWP! - Things are moving forward!!

Found what I was looking for:

It's a Job Grant given when you gain full time employment, £100 for me, that's not bad. I can buy some shoes, shirts and trousers.

Good luck to you all. I'll keep posting any updates. x

Yeah but you need to have been on JSA for at least 26 weeks? Have you? Is it continuous 26 weeks because I've been on JSA on and off?

After someone lovely at Newcastle took over my application, everything got done in around ten days (!) and I start on Tuesday  (it would have been the week starting 1 June but I've had something arranged for over a year on 2 and 3 June so I thought it best to get a week in before swanning off for two days.

Just got my job grant thingy for clothes, and will be watching/taking notes from Pauline in The League Of Gentlemen in preparation. It's going to be weird working with people I've seen for the last two years on the other side of the desk but finally, I'm earning money at last!

Lol Hey firstly congrats Agnetha! Well done! What's your position? How did you secure a place at your location? Gave your preference location in? Have you been given any formal written confirmation of your post or just by word of mouth?

Secondly....Regarding this grant, do you need to be on JSA continually for 26 weeks to be eligble or can it be on and off JSA?

Congrats again and Hope you enjoy your new job!

AO and yes, I got the location I wanted. No confirmation, just got a phone call on Thursday. Judging by the time this has all taken I expect an official confirmation letter sometime around 2033.

I'm not sure about the grant - I do remember it used to be something you could claim if on New Deal, so I presume it's for people on JSA for longer than 26 weeks.

There is a maximum of £300 allocated to people on JSA for things like clothes, shoes etc, if you need them to get back to work. You have to actually have a job you have been offered, the job must be for longer than 3 months (i think).
You can apply for this funding no matter how long you have been on JSA ... it doesnt matter if you have been on it a week. There used to be a time limit but it has been changed. It is called Advisory Discretionary Fund and you have to arrange an Advisory Discretionary Fund interview with someone at your jobcentre and, as the name suggests, it is at their discretion whether they grant it to you or not. I think you also need to provide quotations for the items you wish to purchase.
You would be best asking your jobcentre about this "Advisory Discretionary Fund", as I have only been an EO for two weeks :D

    Hi Joebreakdown and ABC219

I had been made redundant from previous employment and finished there at the end of December. Since then i have either not been working or just temping. So, for me, there wasnt really a decision to make when I was offered the position.
I did not receive a Starter Pack and have not really received one. I had a letter by email offering me the job but that came the day before i started. That email had a tiny bit about pensions in it. After a couple of days work, I received a pack of stuff through the post about pensions. I have also been approached by the union rep and am awaiting a lot of information from the Union, by post. What are you expecting in this Starter Pack?
I am really enjoying the job actually. My role is PA dealing with New Claims at the moment. My diary gets filled up and the day goes quickly. New Claims customers are usually really nice and desperate to get back to work.

My first day was good. I was shown round. You will have to spend a bit of time working through a booklet about keeping safe. I did that in the morning and then in the afternoon I sat with one of the other EOs and watched them interview. I did sit with that person for the next couple of days really. Then he sat while I interviewed and he did the bit on the computer. After a week I was at my own desk doing 4 interviews a day. I am now up to 5 interviews a day and apparently you usually do 7 of those plus a couple of shorter ones. Its been really good!
There is a lot of e-learning and I am going to do some of that tomorrow.

    Gracias, that sounds good!

    I start in a week

Hi there, thanks for the feedback. Without going into too much info, the person I have dealt with is the only contact I was given on my 'success/waiting list' letter, and I do have genuine reason to doubt his efficiency. Without going down that route however, there is apparently only one list for this area role, and I'm within the 105 that they said were being taken on. Their own words were that they had a lot of work to do in terms of paperwork etc, and that it could 4 weeks or so until I heard from them. Now, six-seven weeks on, I started to wonder what the position was, and he now turns round and says I should start looking for other work as the waiting list has no guarantees !! After being told I simply had to be patient while they did their checks and paperwork as everyone was being taken on, I find this very frustrating. Clearly I will carry on looking for work, but I would love to know if anyone else is having trouble with mixed messages, and in particular, does anyone know how many people are being taken on for definite in this area and any ideas on time-frame? Thanks again.

    Hi Reebok,

How you doing? Have you heard anything yet? Do you by any chance remember what the salary is for this post? I have finally been given my start date, 1st June, received my written offer today but it doesn't outline the salary and I've forgotten, ooops.

I'm based around 3 different locations, 1 one of which is quite far for me to travel but I suppose beggars can't be choosers!! It's in these new resource centres that act as 'one stop shops' where you can get debt advice, employment etc. So wherever there is demand thats where I will be for that particular day. Anyone else working in a resource centre?
