• Getting the £1000 into my new account is proving rather difficult.
Ten days later, I still have no internet banking log-in from Barclays.
I have an Abbey account but since they aren't a bank, I had to set up a bill payment to Barclays.

Today, an Abbey teller told me to phone telephone banking to set it up. She said it couldn't be done in the branch. I called tel. banking who set it up but couldn't transfer £1000 as it was too high an amount. Told me to go into an Abbey branch
I will be going into my Abbey branch on Monday to get them to transfer £1000 and to complain about the duff info. from the teller.

This whole saga has shown me how bad the banks/Building Societies can be when dealing with customers.

Yes. If you have a squeaky clean credit record with a number of different providers, haven't moved house for several years, and are on the Electoral Roll, Barcs can get all the ID verification info it needs from Experian or Equifax. So no need for you to take passport, gas bill, etc, into a branch.
Well I guess I fit this criteria as my application at Barclays went through remarkably easily.

I applied the day Martin's email came out, received the standard "we're overloaded" email and about 2 weeks later having heard nothing (and reading about other people having already got their accounts opened) I phoned them up, was told that my application had been accepted and I'd receive details in a few days.

Week later got a form to sign for my specimen signature and no requests for id, etc. After sending that back I got the online banking details, then the cheque book, done the first £1k transfer and an now waiting until March for the second.

All in all just what the account opening should have been - a breeze.

Only wish I'd been smart enough to open an account for my OH as well ...
I'd be happier on holiday in Brittany than being at work !
• What a nightmare!!!!
i appiled for my OH and heard nothing apart from the standard email...then days etc.
so i complaint last week on their website and recvd a fone call this morning saying she hadnt been accepted due to the sheer volume of applicants! Can they reject for this reason? And they had no record of the appication!!! what a contradiction.
i'm not happy with this response, can i take this any further?
any suggestions will be welcome
thanks

Hmmmm, I had been reading this thread quite smugly for the past couple of weeks. Account opening seemed to go OK - I got the 'delayed' email, but then eventually got the form through the post to sign (the annoying one with all my personal details printed badly on it!).

Signed it and sent it back in. However, they have sent the whole lot back to me through the post again! Complete with the yellow form with all my personal details on it again. I have only NOW received a request to go into a branch to present additional ID!!! Very annoying, is it a delaying tactic I wonder?

Having read all these helpful posts I shall be making sure they don't trick me into anything, and I am going to follow this whole saga through to the end now - I am determined to get my £100.
• I got a welcome to Barclays e-mail on the 23rd and it confirmed I would get the £100[which is good] However it didnt say how long I'd have to wait. I have paid my 2nd installment as well so I'll just have to wait I guess. Will post as soon as I know more
• ...does anyone know the specific dates when this offer (a) opened and (b) was closed? Not sure if they are trying to avoid paying me the £100 but here is the saga...

18th Jan applied online. It said "you'll hear within four days"

24th Jan email said "it may take 10 days due to volunme" (thanks Martin :) )

around 1st/2nd Feb completed application form arrived with instructions "take identification to a branch to complete the exercise"

7th Feb took application form, driving license and bank statement into the Lytham branch. They kept the form, photocopied the identification and said "thankyou we'll send this off for you"

Waited...

and waited...

22nd Feb rang Barclay's... what a mess... no record of it (although they still had a record of the applic form, fortunately). Sent a duplicate of the applic form... arrived 25th Feb

27th Feb... took it into the Garstang branch... really helpful girl but she said "it's out of date" "not sure you'll get the £100" blah blah blah...

Anyway she said she'd go "...and try and sort it out"... time will tell!

Anyone else had any bad experiences? (Cut/pasted this from another thread)

Thanks...

Yup... me too - sounds like another Hoover (was it Hoover???) offer

Just received an e-mail from Barclays:

"Ok, we admit it! Opening a bank account with us isn't nearly as exciting as winning the lottery. But it can make you feel pretty tickled knowing your cash is in a place you can trust. Add to this the £100 cash you’ll receive for simply paying in £1000 a month for two months, and things are already looking up."

I guess everyone who receives this is on target for the £100.

Hmm I haven't received one of these e-mails. I applied the day Martin's e-mail came out and amazingly didn't need to go into a branch to supply ID. Account was all opened up, received internet banking details and have transferred first £1k in. I suppose I might have lost the e-mail mentioned above amongst all the fake 'Barclays IBank Security' spam messages that I receive multiple times a week, but I'm pretty sure I didn't see it.

Certainly hope it doesn't mean I'll lose out on the £100 - hopefully just their systems not working properly! Will certainly ensure my next £1k transfers in promptly to keep well within the T&Cs!
