  • Took ID into Barclays and account is now open. I'll wait for the debit card to arrive then transfer my first £1K.

I did point out that the reason I'd opened the account was that while others offered £50 for opening an account Barclays offered £100. The bloke I was dealing with didn't bat an eyelid. So fingers crossed.

Would be good to hear if nad when someone gets the £100.
  • Is today the big day? Will my application finally arrive before the weekend? :D
  • Applied the morning the offer was closed and still no e-mail or paperwork, does anyone have a number I can call them on and chase this up?
2p off is still 2p off!

I guess I am one of the lucky ones who took the 100 quid free tip immediately, applied online and account went through fo fuss, apart from i havent yet received my membership number for online banking.
Just a thought, as I am about to deposit first months 1K to qualify for offer (and next month same of course, remembering to withdraw it back to savings account soon as it clears each time!) -
As the account has opened in January, does my first 1K have to be deposited AND cleared be end of January (only 4 days away!) for me to meet the t's and c's - or is it within a one month period from account opening to make your first 1k deposit.

If it is the latter, no rush, but if it is the former, need to get to the bank with some cash by monday!

If anyone else has managed to get the account up and running, have you paid in your first 1k yet?

Don't worry - it is 30 days after opening account and not on the calendar month.

Received the letter requesting me to take ID into my local barclays. Went to my local branch who said I'd have to open an account via the branch as they couldn't process the online application so I left

The online application has already been processed, no need for the branch to think they have to do it, nor no need to open an account via branch.

The Barclays online application form states this ...

"We’ll process your application and let you know the result within four working days. If your application is successful we’ll send you forms to sign and return. Your account will then be open straight away." ... therefore your application has been processed.

When you take ID to branch they will 'finalise the opening' of your account which you applied for online by fully completing the online application form - inline with their T&Cs.

There are 2 types of letter people are being sent. Some people have to just take the ID into the branch and other people have to do the full application in the branch. For some reason some applications are not being handled online properly- this could be due to problems with the servers or the data people have put into the application forms.

    1. Request to take ID to local branch and a copy of the application form.
    2. Request to take ID to local branch and no application, but asking you to apply in the branch.

Plus of course the letter that doesn't ask you to provide ID.

I transferred the money from an A&L account yesterday, so it hasn't arrived yet.

I got the e mail today with my membership number. its says my passcode will arrive in post over next few days then once I have that i can log in and use the online banking. So I assume the a/c is not "open" until that happens? Do I get a note of a/c number & sort code so I can pay in the money? I am assuming that I don't have to get money in by end Jan???

Also just to confirm, I can transfer in £1k from my online bank a/c with Smile, watch it clear with Barclays then transfer it back to Smile then repeat that a month later?
MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!

My account number and sort code arrived in a letter on the same day as the passcode - but once you have the passcode you can log in and see your account number anyway.

Correct - it's within a month of opening the account.

Correct - or, as innovate says above, transfer the same £500 twice.

  • Like lots of other people, I received the "2 forms of ID" letter and duly took these into my local branch. The Branch Manager wasn't in that day so they just took copies of everything and got her to ring me the next day. The BM told me that my application was logged as 20th Jan and when I argued that it was in fact 18th Jan she told me that "they" would probably turn me down due to their system showing 20th, but she would be happy to send the paperwork off anyway.

I rang the 0500 007 234 number and was again told that my application was showing as 20th Jan so I wasn't liable. However, when I argued my point the customer service rep rang through to the online department to double check and quoted to me "don't worry - you are on the £100 list).

Fingers crossed eh? And I wish my company recorded telephone calls.
