I have had only the e mail which reads:
Thank you for applying for a current account with Barclays. Due to popular demand your application may take a little longer to be processed than we anticipated. I apologise for this and we will be in contact with you within 10 days to let you know the outcome of your application.
Thank you for choosing Barclays.
I have had no requests to go to the Bank etc and still remain hopeful. i have to say I love the popular demand bit0 -
Hi Bockster
I'm in the same position as you (had to go to branch with ID despite having lots of good credit history) so would love to know the outcome of your enquiry.
Cheers

hi martin,
did you have any equifax questions when you applied online? from what i've read so far, i'm the only one i know of where the questions never appearedPlease note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0 -
bockster wrote:now;- just called 0500 007 234, to try and get a definitive answer as to whether we qualify for £100. was told that being asked to produce id in the branch meant that the computer didn't identify us at the time of online application! something about no credit file! i find this hard to believe after now being on my fourth mortgage, credit/debit cards, several current accounts etc.
anyway, i was then told that being identified at the time of application was one of the t&c,s of the offer! WHAT!
T&C 4 states:
4. The account must be opened within one month of fully completing the Barclays Bank Account application form online.
So the only thing you do online is fully complete the application form, there is then a one month period in which to open the account. I'd suggest that if they have responded to you as a result of submitting the online application form, wether it is to take ID to branch or even just an offer to open an account in branch - this is inline with T&C 4.
It was not possible to submit the online form unless it was fully completed. If Barclays can not do what they need to with the answers to the questions they asked is their problem.
They are making themselves look a bunch of dim wits.0 -
48 hour response.
Has anyone who has filed a complaint on the 0500 number not had a response within the 48 hours?
I take it that the 48 hours is to the minute the complaint was taken.0 -
The Barclays online application form states this ...
"We’ll process your application and let you know the result within four working days. If your application is successful we’ll send you forms to sign and return. Your account will then be open straight away."
So if you have recieved forms to sign and return your application has been succesful. Wether you're asked to return them by post or to a branch is not relevant.
Taking ID and forms to branch is to 'finalise the opening' of the account, it is not to apply for an account.0 -
i think they have no leg to stand on regarding the 7 or 8 t&c,s directly related to this offer. what i expect to happen is that they will refer to general barclays t&c,s. we'll see. thanks sooler for your snippets, all good amo! Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0

Went to my local branch who said I'd have to open an account via the branch as they couldn't process the online application so I left. Emailed customer services and mentioned that I had applied when the £100 offer was still active and had been into my local branch and was told that this was not posible. This is the reply I received:
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately you do need to take your ID& address verification in to a branch to get it certified. The #100 offer has now been withdrawn.
Please note that you can complete this type of request in the following way, by:
- visiting any Branch
- using Barclays Telephone Banking (if not registered please call 08457 555 555 ), if calling from overseas dial +44 24 7684 2100
- placing it in the post to, Barclays Bank PLC, Leicester, LE87 2BB.
The email address we have contacted you from is used for outbound emails only. Should you need to contact Barclays again please do so by visiting the Contact Us pages on either the Barclays Homepage or Barclays Online Banking site.
Yours sincerely

Barclays Bank plc
So it seems that if you were asked for ID and proceed to with the application you will be refused the £100 anyway.
Not always the case, OH was asked to take in ID to branch, but he now has account number, has paid his £1000 in and account is up and running. On the other hand I also had to take my ID into the branch and I am still waiting.0 -

The online application has already been processed, no need for the branch to think they have to do it, nor no need to open an account via branch.
The Barclays online application form states this ...
"We’ll process your application and let you know the result within four working days. If your application is successful we’ll send you forms to sign and return. Your account will then be open straight away." ... therefore your application has been processed.
When you take ID to branch they will 'finalise the opening' of your account which you applied for online by fully completing the online application form - inline with their T&Cs.0 -
I guess I am one of the lucky ones who took the 100 quid free tip immediately, applied online and account went through fo fuss, apart from i havent yet received my membership number for online banking.
Just a thought, as I am about to deposit first months 1K to qualify for offer (and next month same of course, remembering to withdraw it back to savings account soon as it clears each time!) -
As the account has opened in January, does my first 1K have to be deposited AND cleared be end of January (only 4 days away!) for me to meet the t's and c's - or is it within a one month period from account opening to make your first 1k deposit.
If it is the latter, no rush, but if it is the former, need to get to the bank with some cash by monday!
If anyone else has managed to get the account up and running, have you paid in your first 1k yet?
