  • Whats the latest on this?

I've had a letter asking me to visit a branch with ID. I was going to do that today but reading the posts I'm not sure if it's worth doing.

Has anyone else provided ID at a branch and not been fobbed off?
  • I tried emailling them asking a general question of whether those who received the "bring ID into branch" letter are eligible for the £100 - This is their answer

How useful is that? NOT AT ALL!

  • Martin,

You might like to know that I am very reliably informed that the banks combine to keep lists of certain people who, quite legitimately, profit from these offers. Such as all those who have posted on this thread. Apparently they share this information and are able to refuse future offers to these people. Not quite sure how this is done, but you get the picture.

Now, I just wonder if their action is legal ? Sounds like a conspiracy against perfectly legitimate actions, alternatively, the offers they make are not quite what they seem.

I got onto this a while ago and did very nicely indeed out of the ill-fated Zurich bank, thank you. ;)

    fc

But how would they know who "those who have posted on this thread" actually are...?

Me too! I did nicely out of Zurich Bank as well since, not only did I still get a case of wine, but I also got compensation when they shut down the banking side.

Incidentally, apropos my post of yesterday, NO LETTER has been received by me this morning...

And I don't think one-of-the-previous-poster's ideas that the criterion could be the length of "other current accounts" because I've had my "other one" far longer than my wife's had hers.
Expect the worst & hope for the best...

    LOL.

Seems different people interpret "online service" differently! How utterly pathetic, to ask people to go to a Branch, use a phone, or write a letter when the service is touted as "online"!!!!!

BTW, I saw a brief interview with Bob Diamond (fitting name!!!), President of Barclays, on BBC Breakfast this morning. Declan wotshisname quizzed him on whether Barclays are likely to make a repeat performance of their £4 billion profits last year across the Barclays Group. A beaming Diamond proudly told Declan about all the wonderful systems Barclays have, and said all's on track, and he'd again be paid on performance.

£2.5m or so for 25,000 people getting a £100 account opening bonus will make no difference to the performance pay Mr Diamond gets - whether the £2.5m gets paid out or not. So he probably genuinely believes he runs a great business.

Well done! The first of hpefully many

Why do you pay £1,000 in one go, why not "recycle" just £500 for a couple of months? Pay it into Barclays, as soon as it shows, pay it back into your interest-earning account, then send it to Barclays again in a couple of weeks? A couple of standing orders will do the job for you. Mind you, I am assuming here that the Barclays online account will allow you to set up an SO easily, and this might be one assumption too many.

Well managed to sign up and received my password this morning, logged in got my details and will transfer money later. A point of concern though, over the last year or so I have had the usual emails attempting to extract my ebay, paypal, lloydstsb account numbers from me and well aware of them have ignored them all. During this time I have never had one pretending to be from Barclays, until this morning that is. It may just be a coincidence that one week after signingup online with Barclays I start to get these emails but its worth watching out for. Not only was it trying to cheat me but Avast picked it up as having a virus attached! I phoned Barclays to query why I should start to get these now but they denied that emails could be harvested from them.

    Scene: Barclays Application Department

"Ok lets verify if any of these applications have been shafting the other banks"

"Anyone got an application in the name of 'dinglebert'?"

    *blank looks*

"Anyone got an application from freebird65?"

    *sound of paper shuffling*

"Come on people, someone must have an application from Apples1?"

I'd say the likelihood of the banks sharing any sort of info of who applies for the accounts is complete and utter tripe, for insurance and fraud purposes yes, for getting free gifts, no.

"Hello Barclays? Yes this is Lloyds TSB, would you like a list of all our customers? Purely to weed out people after free money, please don't use this information for targeted marketing or stealing our customers."

You can see details of current accounts on credit reports. I'd say that anyone with active accounts at First Direct, A&L, LLoyds TSB, Primeline AND Smile would probably be a prime suspect as a bonus bagger.

But oddly enough I was accepted instantly.

Well we have a joint smile AC and OH was accepted (letter yesterday). All the cards with 0% should have said something too, if they cared to look.

Hopefully my letter will be waiting when I get home tonight.
