  • I have just received an email telling me that it will now take 10 days to have my application processed. So if like me, you got in before the loophole was closed, don't hold your breath for the £100!!

Yay - applied when the tip e-mail went out and got my acceptance letter this morning. Have to sign the form and signiture card and post it back. Getting married in April, so the £100 bonus will come in very useful.

Thanks very much to whoever spotted it first!
Here I go again on my own....

She wanted me to get in touch with my internet provider to get proof of time I made application as if it was possible!!!!!!!

I think the letter from Barclays says that you applied online?

Also, forgot, she told me not to bother bringing in ID until I hear back from them. Do you all think we should go ahead and then make big fuss as advised by Dan. Love causing a hassle in writing or on phone but not so hot in public.

If this does turn out to by Barclays' position, it's not really anything to do with the branch staff in my opinion, so hopefully no need to make a fuss face-to-face. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Martin wanted to take it up with them at a higher level if they try to do this.

Am i right in assuming that everyone who applied before they cottoned on and closed it, will get the £100 after 2 months??

When i applied i had no probs and the offer was still on, i got an e-mail the other day saying due to high demand it will take roughly 10 days.

Will i still get my £100??
    Nice to save.

That's the idea - I think everyone has received that e-mail.

  • Received my acceptance letter yesterday, along with completed application to sign plus specimen signature form. I have a long memory so, revenge at last after 40+ years!!! £100 pay back from Barclays for "losing" £20 of my money from a savings account during a change of branch premises.
So many thanks to whoever spotted this £100 bonus, it will be a pleasure to receive then close a Barclays account again!
  • Dan,

What I meant was she said my provider can prove time and date I applied online. Not sure how to go about proving when I applied. It def. was when £100 was showing but she says Barclays cant confirm when I did.

Should I just bring in ID or not :confused:

Sorry, yes, I see. I doubt whether internet service providers would be willing to provide that sort of information. Clearly Barclays DO know when you applied but of course it may be in their interests to "not know".

I would continue with the application by providing ID if I were you - we don't know if everyone will get the £100 but it's clear that you won't if you don't open and fund the account. I can't see that you have anything to lose as presumably any credit checks have already been done?

Just carry on with the application.

The letter confirms you applied online, taking ID into a branch is to "finalise the opening of your account". Therefore the opening of the account has already commenced and is in progress, the account has been opened online. This is inline with their terms and conditions.

Taking ID into a branch does not initiate the opening of the account - this can not disqualify you from the £100.

    Hi guys,

Like you I fancied a piece of this, not least because it was Barclays. I applied at about 07.30 a.m on the 19th, quite some time before the deadline. The whole process went along smoothly, I was asked a few questions by experian (or whoever they are) which I answered correctly. I have no bad credit history. I received a letter from Barclays yesterday (dated 21 Jan) stating that they 'have not been able to complete the processing of my application as they need to fully confirm my address and I.D'. I immediately assumed this to be a delay/dissuading tactic to save them some money as we all know they have ballsed up here big time.
So I went along to barclays with the documents, even though I didn't really have the time to do it and had not expected this whole process to take up so much of my time; I simply did it because I believed they were trying to wangle their way out of it.
After waiting 20 minutes in the branch, the personal banker, having photocopied my documents, said that she had misread my letter and that I had to infact open the account in store. I did not have time to do this, so I left.
Having read the MSE e-mail sent out to everyone today, I called Barclays on the freephone number. The girl who took my call had obviously dealt with this query before. She told me that the offer had ended on the 19th. I told her I had applied before the deadline, but she replied that if Barclays had not been able to verify my details by the deadline (19th) then I had missed out on the promotion. By sending me a letter requesting proof of ID, it meant they could not open the account in time and I failed to qualify. This is what she had been told to tell people. She was not budging. In the end I had to lodge a complaint with her and await someone to call me back.
She helpfully offered to open a normal account for me without the incentive. Yeah cheers for that...
