  • I had the delayed e mail and letter to say go in with two forms of ID BUT...

0500 number guy for new accounts told me that as long as i applied during the offer period i would be ok and they would honor it but they dont put confirmation of offer eligibility in the envelope , just the basic stuff outstanding to open the account.
Heres my question, DID I apply within the offer period?

    DUH!

What I mean is I cannot remeber if I applied the same day as Martins money tip email or not, BUT what I do remeeber is the link took me to a screen that clearly offered the £100 incentive for signing up s I guess I probably was eligible!
If i signed into that screen for my application does that equate to being within the offer period? Or did that screen with £100 on it carry on after the eligble period 11.30 on the 19th?
I`m assuming it was a regular screen after they shut it down and £100 link page was inactive after they shut it?
    what do ya think folks?
  • I printed out the offer page on the email day (Am I right to be so paranoid?)
If needed, I can post it to the forum (is that poss?)

My wife had a letter from Barclays saying that her ID needed to be taken into the local branch and that the application could be done in the branch. In the branch they had no record of the application but took a note of the ID and put it on the system.

We phoned Barclays internet application helpline tonight and the operator could not find the application in the system!

We quoted the reference number on the letter we received but the operator couldn't find anything under that reference number or under my wifes name/address! The operator did explain that the system was overloaded with lots of applications for the £100 offer!

He then went on to say that the only way forward was to raise a formal complaint which he would do and it would go on to the next level of support to be investigated.

Any one else in the same situation as us?
  • I and my wife both applied last Wednesday evening (ie. before the offer was withdrawn). Today I got the 10 day email but no letter - my wife got the take-your-ID-to-the-branch letter but no email. All seems totally random to me.

The text of the offer has already been posted here , and a few of us also have a PDF print of the webpage when it was still there. So should it come to any disputes, MSE member should be well-armed, I hope

I also received the boilerplate email today - I had wondered earlier why there was no email confirmation, that's very bad and certainly not what can be expected from a large corporation in the Internet age. Looks their systems (both IT and manual) weren't ready for the offer when they had it on the website. I am chuckling when I imagine the discussions that must have been going on between the Barclays Marketing and IT folks over the last few days!

Although the email is rather confusing, I am not losing any sleep yet (I applied on the 18th and received what looks like an acceptance letter in the post on the 21st, sent signed form back on 22nd)
  • Got the 10-day email today (Tuesday) and letter with application form and signature card. :j

A bit baffled by the letter asking to return the form, signature card and "any additional items requested". I checked, double-checked and checked again but I can't find any request for any additional items so I'm assuming none is required. Shame Barclays couldn't be a bit less vague. Also unimpressed with the quality of the application form itself, it's a photocopied sheet with my application details printed wonkily on top, at one end the text is completely misaligned. Altogether not very professional! Also, there's a box which is NOT pre-filled on the back of the form, which you could quite easily miss, which says "Yes, I wish to apply for a Barclays Bank Account". Best check that one, then!

Anyway, it does look like I should be getting 100 quid for nowt, so I can't really complain. Was sceptical that they would honour the offer at all given the numbers applying, I suppose they would be within their rights to refuse any application they choose, but it appears I've been lucky, fingers crossed. Cheers Martin!
  • Re. Barlclays £100 cashback current account; I applied a few days ago. I had an email yesterday saying that due to popular demand, my account may take a little longer to process than anticipated. They will contact me in the next ten days to let me know the outcome of my application. Presumably, they can turn me down without giving a reason? Does anybody know if this is the case.
  • Most internet a/c applications are sorted very quickly, without a `stalling` mail, as banks can`t wait to get you on their books. It would be nice if Barclays honoured their promise and made us all happy customers but, do you get the feeling they won`t on this one ?.
  • Yes, I do. I have a feeling they can turn me down, even though my credit rating should be good. I am never in debt. Anyway, we shall see. I will report back!
