  • Hey all, this is only my second post but I think I might have got the wierdest response to my Barclays application. I received the stalling email this morning and a letter in the post arrived too, saying my application had been turned down as I didnt score well enough, and that I can check my credit score with Equifax.

Stupidly I confused the 2 statements, thinking that my Equifax score was too low (I now know they are claiming my applicatioon score was too low, HUGE DIFFERENCE!)

Panicking, I applied for a full credit report online from Equifax and got an excellent rating. Confused I phoned Barclays, spoke to customer care who have appologised for the letter they sent, indicated that they were oversubscribed for the offer and have said they will investigate refunding my £12.95 Equifax fee by way of a customer complaint.

Interesting turn of events. I suggested that the letter Barcays are sending out is a little ambiguous to say the least!

I received the stalling email today along with everyone else and found a letter at home containing an application form and signature card for completion.

There was no request for further identification, so I guess I must have passed the checks and been accepted.

Now I wonder if I can get another £50 for the OH as my referrer ......

  • I tried applying within 1 hour of getting the mse email, Barclay's systems were failing, and it was teatime before I completed the application.

Just got their reply today by post: first line says "Thank you for applying for a Barclays Bank Account over the telephone"

the envelopes with it said "online".

Anyone else seen this? Check the wordiing!

I rang them, they said write it on the form as online (which I already had)

Hi all, well I did manage to apply in time. BUT today I have been told my credit score does not meet their requirement. This is obviously a way of avoiding us money grabbers, as I have never had a bad credit rating in my life.
  • PERSONAL DATA SHOCKER . . .

Arrived home tonight to find the 10 day delay email and a letter asking me to produce proof of ID and residence at my local branch but what really annoyed me was the fact that they included a paper copy of my online application proudly displaying all my personal data:

Name, DOB, Address, Bank Account Number, Sort Code, Work Address and my Mothers Maiden Name.

Come on!!! That ain't right is it??? The 10 day delay email proudly advertises that Barclays will not pass personal memorable word data in it's electronic form.

Shame that they don't hesitate to send it via our highly secure Royal Mail.

What a fiasco. Come on Martin stick your oar in and give them some stick.

I got a chequebook in the post today and the 10-day email, so I guess they've just sent them out to everyone who applied regardless of whether they are accepted, rejected, or still processing. Either that or they can't track what state each applicant's account is in, which is a bit worrying.

I've had the "10 day" e-mail this morning too.

(If everything's this chaotic [as everyone's indicating] n o w , then it doesn't augur too well for them being able to sort out the 100 quid bribes does it..?)
Expect the worst & hope for the best...
  • I applied online as soon as I received Martin's Money Tips on 18th January. Had no acknowledgement from Barclays until an email on 24th. On 24th I also received in the post the completed application form and signature mandate - their letter was dated 20th. Rang their "any questions" helpline on 0500 007 234 to seek confirmation that Barclays would honour their £100 bonus. Was told that it had been withdrawn on 19th and it could not be discussed on the phone! I must visit my local branch who had other attractive offers!! Since I applied online and they did not acknowledge my application for 6 days I can't prove I applied on 18th or for that matter force them to honour their "offer". As Martin says it's a rubbish account anyway so I'm not going to bother. Thought you might like to know.

I was equally surprised to see this as well!

In reality it is just the same us anyone doing a paper application and posting it back to Barclays.
