That doesn't sound right. I think they'll be dealing with many unhappy people - including me - if they try to enforce that.

Doesn't sound right to me either, it would be a rather arbitrary and most unfair way of deciding who receives the £100 and who doesn't. Asking for proof of ID is standard practice and I've always needed to provide this in the past, despite having a good credit score. I was therefore quite surprised to receive my application form and signature form today, without being asked to provide the 'additional items' mentioned in the covering letter. Phoned the helpline and was told all I need to do is return the forms and that's it!

I'm tempted to include a letter confirming that I wish to go ahead and open the account only on the understanding that Barclays will honour the terms and conditions of the £100 offer.
  • I am gutted now as just received my letter asking me to take ID to local branch. Is there any point if they only honour £100 to those with pre paid reply envelope? High for 2 mins now confused. Hate dopey bank staff couldnt bear the embarrasment if turned down.

I think we should all continue to follow the procedure and then if they do try to get out of paying the £100 to those who were required to produce ID, there will be a huge number of complaints for them to deal with which will increase the pressure on them to pay up.

However I believe it's more likely that Deb spoke to someone who gave her incorrect information.

What I can't understand is that I didn't have to provide any 'additional items' either (despite it being mentioned in the covering letter). However my girlfriend who has a similar credit history and is joint owner of our house with me - and has a Barclaycard! - had to take ID into a branch.

  • Just called 0500 number and told same stupid excuse that if you got letter to take in id didn't get it. How sly as don't tell you that on letter. Poor lady was very helpful but appears they just have a script to read out and are in the dark themselves. I have lodged a complaint. She wanted me to get in touch with my internet provider to get proof of time I made application as if it was possible!!!!!!! Is it, confused myself now???

I should hear my Tues if they will honour the £100.
  • Also, forgot, she told me not to bother bringing in ID until I hear back from them. Do you all think we should go ahead and then make big fuss as advised by Dan. Love causing a hassle in writing or on phone but not so hot in public.

I applied last Sunday and got a rejection letter today  It said my credit score was "below the level that we currently accept". Hmmm. I was looking forward to that £100.

I got the same. I've never been turned down for anything like this in my life and my credit score is excellent. I wonder if they've "tuned" the credit acceptance parameters?

Surely if people believe they qualify for the £100, they should continue with their application. If the bank then refuse - complain - and if you don't get anywhere let Martin know as well as close the account. The bank are the worst off as they've done loads of admin for nothing.
  • I spoke to someone at Barclays and they said that the main reason you would have to take id in is if you answered one of the experian questions wrong, and it is just to help prove who you are, so how it can exclude you from getting the £100 seems a bit strong.
