Maybe they're snowed under because people keep contacting them with multiple complaints instead of being patient and waiting for their free money to arrive?

You should have asked if they would be unilaterally providing compensation by increasing the cash to those affected.

It would be nice, but I think it's unlikely.

I don't quite understand why people are getting so upset about the money being a little bit late.
It's FREE money and surely no one is relying on it to survive.
  • I'm personally not upset, nor do I need the money. Have you got yours yet lisyloo? What gets up my nose is the fact that Barclays can just override and ignore their own T &C's. In fact I've just sent them a letter offering to donate the £100 to the Barclays Bank Shareholders in Financial Distress Fund if they're really desperate!

Its quite simple, they have broke the T & C's that they set by not paying within 28 days

I very much doubt anyone is relying on it to survive

They have had one complaint from me after 28 days expired, they will get another complaint if I don't have it within the next 14 days.

As for people who want to continuously complain, that is up to them, in my opinion it doesn't do any harm to apply pressure.

No I don't have mine yet, but I'm not in the least bit worried because I know that they are legally obliged to give it to me and I KNOW for a fact that I will get it.
What gets up my nose is the fact that Barclays can just override and ignore their own T &C's.

I don't think they are deliberately ignoring the T&C's.
They have been massively overwhelmed and sometimes it just isn't possible to meet deadlines.
They cannot recruit skilled staff immediately. It takes time to recruit and train people.

    I am not defending them.
I think they have been incredibly naive with this promotion, but we don't live in a perfect world and sometimes it is practically impossible to meet dates.

e.g. Just imagine you order something guaranteed next day delivery and the delivery van is in a fatal collission with parcels all over the motorway.
With the best will in the world it isn't possible to deliver the parcels the next day.

I am not impressed with Barclays, but I don't understand what is to be gained by running round like headless chickens, phoning up every 5 minutes.
It's won't make things go quicker, in fact it will SLOW DOWN the process.

I am absolutely confident that everyone who is due their money will get it, albeit some will be a little late.
If you fail in a complaint then you can go to the Ombudsman and I don't see any way that Barclays can fail to pay people who have met the Ts&Cs.

My motto is - Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetance.

Barclays have been VERY incompetant but I don't think for a minute that they have done this deliberately just to wind people up. This has been a HUGE failure for them, so why would they do it deliberately?

They didn't count on it going on the internet and lots of people taking advanatge.
Incredibly naive in this day and age, but as I said it takes time to recruit and train people so there's not a lot they can do.

In my experience a lot of good deals are like this so you kk=ind of have to expect it.

I have applied for mortgages that are a great deal.
I got the great deal but it was slow as they were overwhlemed.

I have applied for magazines with free gifts. They get publicised on the internet and the gifts run out in about 10 minutes.

It's par for the course with this kind of stuff.
    You have to expect it.
If you don't want the hassle then don't get involevd in these kind of promotions.

I agree to a point, but there have certainly been concerted attempts at obstruction particularly early on as the scale of the disaster dawned on them - I think they've given up on these now and are biting the bullet and paying up.

It certainly is worth complaining if you've been messed around though - my wife got an extra payment of £50 for a catalogue of errors and still isn't able to run the account online - but do this to the complaints address rather than front line customer services, and make sure there has been a genuine issue rather than just complaining because the payout was a few days late.

    I agree.
To try and fobb people off to avoid paying them the £100 is disgusting.
Anyone in this sitaution should definitely complain.
As far as I can see they are legally obliged to pay.

Catalogue of errors? - yes complain.

2 weeks late? - big deal - so what
Yes, they didn't stick to their part of the deal - yes we don't live in a perfect world.
Compared with world poverty, aids, bird flu etc. it ain't a big deal.
