UKTigerlily - you have beaten me to it!
OP - why can't the new baby and the girl (2yrs?) share for a few years, if they are worried about the stress of moving with a newborn. Surely the newborn will be in the parents room for up to the first 6 months anyway.
Also when you are in social housing/DSS kids don't automatically get seperate rooms until one of them hits puberty.0 -
they live in army housing serving soldier my brother is away for 7 months leaves a month before the baby comes i think he would just like to sort the matter out before he leaves as when he gets back he will have had a child that is 6 months old and never met so instead of moving i think he would like/love bonding time with the 3 kids a lot changes in 7 months!you cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0

I'm in that situation... I understand the point but don't see what the problem is exactly... I have to pay and I don't think it's a rip off....
If the money is used within the hospital (which I'm sure it is), go for it... maybe it'll be used in the maternity ward for equipment? Or the prem ward???
I couldn't give a monkeys if I really wanted to know that badly
Happy new year to you too... oh and you should have said about the belated pressie... that's a nice thing to do. :T0 -

i will pay the £50 for my brother as a belated crimbo pressie!
thanks for all the responses
happy new year to all....................
I think people here *do* see the point in knowing a baby's gender (some of us are relatively intelligent!). I certainly understand that knowing the baby's gender can be very useful in planning ahead. I understand that some people want to know just because they want to know - *I'd* want to know!
But many of the people posting here also see the point that knowing the gender isn't *essential* to the child's health or development if it's healthy - which is what the NHS is set up to deliver. And therefore it's an extra service for which the hospital may choose to charge, and not a disgusting rip off. That's all.
Happy New Year to you too, hope the family like their present.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I asked to know the sex of my (daughter) at the 20week scan, which they did. But the hospital soon changed their policy and I can see why, it DOES take up more time and you WILL get some people who will abort because it's the wrong sex.
I remember being in bed in the maternity hospital, and there was an Asian woman across from me, she was crying loads, and her husband was taking no interest in the baby AT ALL, she kept offering him it too hold and he couldn't of seemed less bothered. She told me later, he was wanting a boy and it was her fault that it was a girl.....
Maddening, should be grateful they had a healthy baby!
Btw I am in no way suggesting Asian people only want sons!0 -
i think it is a rip off thats my opinion but started this thread to understand what the charge was all about i think it started to go down the wrong path at one point
i have a son myself im male by the way and i hope that any monies payed to the hospital for scans end up in the scbu part of the ward as my son was 6 weeks early and they were amasing for the whole 3 weeks he was thereyou cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0 -

And the army have said that they will rehouse him into a larger house on the basis of a scan that may or may not be correct???
Do you know how difficult it can be to sex some babies, and how many times they get it wrong. The only way your brother can be 100% sure of the sex of the baby is by amniocentesis, which, unless it's needed for medical reasons, not housing reasons, he would have to pay for. Not to mention that, god forbid, the pregnancy may go wrong.
Why, when the baby is born, if it's not the 'required' sex, can it not sleep in the parents room, as most newborns are anyway, regardless od how many bedrooms a house has. A newborn baby does nt need to have a bedroom of it's own, and I think the DHE will realise this too.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
its nothing to do with the welfare system it is to do with dhe????
please see post #43you cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0 -
I know the hospital in question. If the policy is still the same the sexing scan is done at a separate appointment at 24 weeks (e.g. after the abort limit) and as it is a separate appointment needs to be paid for. The 20week scan is to look at the health of the baby. I do not see the problem paying for this and think that it is a responsible thing for the hospital to do. Also Babyvision in Upton Magna do the service for £50 as well as the 3D scan (which is amazing) if you do not want to pay the NHS - but think about where profits are going in both cases.0
