    whatever.............

    That's not very polite.

I gave a thought-through, reasoned and polite response to your statements, which were my opinion, nothing more. I don't agree with your view that it's a 'disgusting' 'rip off', but I was polite in my response.

Not sure there's a need to be so dismissive of someone else's views. :)

  • Im sorry but i think the NHS are making the right call here. What your brother is asking for is a non-essential treatment and therefore he is responsible for coving the cost himself. Compared to may private scan companies £50 is a bargain.

Don't throw some bigoted crap in about Muslims - do you honestly think if the sex of their child was that important they were prepared to abort a child of the wrong sex, that £50 would put them off?! 'Oh, we did want a boy hunny, but sod it - im not paying £50, lets put it to chance!' - very logical.

I, for one, would much rather the NHS were doing as they are, and using there resources to prevent babies becoming ill or unsafe. No reason you have given makes your brother any kind of priority. If you don't like it, then do as many others do and leave it to fate!
    OnePoll - £12.40, Yougov - £1.00, VO - £24.25, youdoo miles - 24292, MHF - £0.00
Not much, but its a start :rotfl:

    Thanked you by mistake. :o

Complete twaddle...........if you don't have the room don't have any more children.

I think the OP was talking about the room, it's decorating, organising furniture etc etc.

I could be wrong. It has been known:o

The scan should be the same scan where they check for abnormalities. Therefore the additional item (subject to race/religion) is a "guess" on behalf of the person performing the scan, based on their knowledge and experience. They shouldn't need to do anything other than look and listen and guess.

but as already mentioned, the hospital has it's own policies. I think I'd pay the £50, but I'm not a patient person!!!
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

I won't constrain it to muslims, not do I agree that the charge is a deterrant, but it is either a well known fact or a dangerous urban legend, perpetuated by the people doing the scans, that if a couple know the child is female, they are more likely to abort.

this was something that did the rounds before mine were born, and was also mentioned by the scan operator (has anyone noticed I don't know their job title!)

I'm wondering why the OP is so worked up & has called the hospital twice, when it's her BROTHER'S baby & NOT hers?? If my Sis in Law was calling up my hospital & posting on forums like this i'd be just abit annoyed! If the baby is a boy, well he can share with his Sister they don't need to move until he's maybe 2ish?!

The charge someone has already suggested might be because it takes time to find the gender if baby is in an awkward position & they are doping a NON ESSENTIAL service/favour for the parents in finding out. Not much in life is free.

I'm sure your Brother, OP, will either pay up or go to a different hospital if he & his Wife/Partner wish to know.

A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
