I agree with this, it is not a right to know th know the sex of your child, but you have a right to know if there could be any health complications.

    It's not a 'so-called' hospital, It *is* a hospital...!

If that *is* true (that the abortion rates have increased based on knowledge of the gender of a child), then they've taken some action and I think that's right.

If it's not true, and they're just wanting to charge for the service, I still wouldn't have a problem with it. As others have said, the scan is to highlight any problems with a baby's development. Knowing the sex of your child is a privilege on top of that - and if the hospital chooses to put on a fixed private fee for that service (which funds the hospital itself), then that's their right.

If patients at the hospital don't like it, I'm sure they can find other hospitals that operate differently. :)

i would think it was right if it was based on the majority of good parents not wanting to know ready to get rid of the child but there are alot more other thing to take into consideration other than just the gender ie housing etc

i would like to add that for my brother a baby is not a fashion item nor is it a matter of its not perfect lets abort he is serving in the forces (deploying to afghanistan a month before due date and not wanting to leave his family in dire straights) and currently has a three bedroom house his 5 year old is not allowed to share due to medical reasons and the army will not give him a four bedroom unless the baby happens to be a boy so as you can see if it is just a case of wait and see they will be moving house with 3 children with one of which is a new born i thought the new arrival would be hard work with the moving of house on top of it

Yes but a few years ago there wasn't an option of finding out the sex so people just made do... And why should housing be a problem? You find out at 20 weeks you're having a boy and you live in a 2 bed house with a daughter... So do you rush about in the last couple of months to find somewhere new to live or do you wait until after when it's not really going to be a problem for quite a while?

Each hospital is responsible for creating it's own policies and sticking to them and everybody has the option of going for a private scan if they choose to...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
