Anyone getting stocked up on food etc just in case?

Has anyone started to stock up on basic foodstuffs etc in case they or their partners are made redundant?
I think I read somewhere that you were best to have enough dry/tinned foodstuffs in for up to 6 months (not so much frozen in case we start having power cuts).
We kept our nuclear bunk at the bottom of the garden (built during the cold war) fully functional in case the world came to an end.............0 -
Conspiracy theories aside, it just makes sense to have a well stocked store cupboard. There are lots of reasons for doing so, getting snowed in, being too ill to go out, losing your job, finding that you've got a large unexpected (and unbudgeted for) bill to pay etc.0

I will be stocking up on Saturday, and then gradually using those supplies during the following week. Then restocking again the following Saturday, and so on. If Armageddon hits on a Sunday or Monday I will be quite well prepared. Obviously if the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse come knocking on my door later in the week, perhaps a Thursday, things will be a little tighter.0

do you all have shotguns to protect your food when full scale max max happens?
Its ok having food, but when a gang of ten individuals armed with baseball bats, knifes decide to 'raid' your stock pile they wouldn't be too bothered injurying even killing you for it.
You'd be surprised what humans are capable of when its the basics that are fought over, hell so many wars have been fought in the past over territory and things people own :P
Just my 2 penneth.... if you gonna hoard, make sure you can defend your hoard maybe...
Its silly just to hoard, if you needed to use it... full scale anarcy would ensue.0 -

Good luck with it - I ordered a big order about 10 days ago - got emailed a partial refund notice yesterday because half of what I had ordered is out of stock. When I looked on the site though the stuff was still there.
I think they have been inundated with orders since they appeared in the Mail and are having problems coping with the volume of orders they are getting! Mind you I am still happy with the stuff I do get:D:jWhen life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0 -

That's like saying it's silly to wear a motorcycle helmet because if it ever came in useful it would mean that you had just had a nasty crash and you don't want to make that happen.
There is next to no downside to having a decent reserve of food and plenty of situations where it is to your benefit. And if the (unlikely) ultimate economic nightmare scenario ever did happen, I would sure as hell rather have the supplies than have none.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

Maybe you could invite them in and eat them instead of the remainder of your weeks food? OK, I can see that Pestilence doesn't sound too appetising, and war may put up a bit of a fight. Famine and Death may not have too much meat on their bones, come to think of it........
But there is always the horses. Horse casserole for the rest of the week, Mewbie?
Now, can you eat horse livers........:?:D

:T Such a hilarious thread, I've been giggling all the way through:rotfl:
I don't think times are so bad that we need to start stocking up on non-perishables just yet!, however.. if the time ever does come, we'll be sorted in my household - we grow fresh vegetables and have a large plum tree / lots of blackberries, we're also working on some apple trees. Obviously these won't be very useful out of season!, but in the worst case senario, I'm a total pasta addict, so just buying loads of bags of pasta and some long lasting bottles of sauce would see us through for a while.
It's always handy to have a plan, I actually quite enjoy creating mental checklists of things I'd need should the economy collapse completely / zombies attack / some other random disaster, because it occupies my active imagination. Now I've declared that I'm probably quite mad, I'm off to read a few more pages of this comic thread.
