in the worst case senario, I'm a total pasta addict, so just buying loads of bags of pasta

Pasta is imported, of course. So it'll go up in price a lot, first, and then become unobtainable. I want to be stocked up before the price rises.

That's like saying it's silly to wear a motorcycle helmet because if it ever came in useful it would mean that you had just had a nasty crash and you don't want to make that happen.

There is next to no downside to having a decent reserve of food and plenty of situations where it is to your benefit. And if the (unlikely) ultimate economic nightmare scenario ever did happen, I would sure as hell rather have the supplies than have none.

you missed my point.... if you are thinking you will need the stockpile.. then you should also stockpile ammunition, get a gun licence, and learn to shoot a shotgun... etc

As you will need it.. that is all :P

Oh, I don't know. Wouldn't it be better to take a precautionary approach: viz, hide everything very well, and not all in one place.

However, a shotgun might come in useful to snag protein (rabbit, pheasant).

The processed food issue did come up at some point during the thread. Pot Noodle are loaded with salt and flavourings (otherwise, it's just tasteless grit) and don't contain many essential nutrients...pretty much empty calories.

Eating stuff like that fills the stomach but doesn't feed the brain and body properly, plus you would drink more water (due to the high salt content) and water being scarce cropped up in the thread too.

And there was the post about the tribe that lived on rabbits alone and died of starvation.

You mention feeding the brain. Isn't it already too late for someone who chooses to buy pot noodle?

All things considered, better to have food in reserve than not.

It comes in handy in lots of foreseeable and highly possible emergencies like bad weather, strikes, general supply disruptions etc and if the worst comes to the worst you aren't exactly likely to be having a barbie in your back garden to attract attention to the fact that you are better prepared than most......

There's really no downside to it except the danger of food price falls meaning you overpay - highly unlikely IMO and a price worth paying for the security anyway.....
