just thought of somethere if you store flour in a none air tight container. Little creatures start to develop. Think it's something to do with the yeast.

These are sort of weevil things that along the process might have laid eggs in the flour that ended up in the bag.

When you buy flour you shoud wrap it in a plastic bag and stick it in the freezer for a day. It kills any eggs that MIGHT be in there. Discussions on Old Style have found that most people have NEVER had any such thing happen and one person who had seen "things" had seen them only once, years ago, in a big flour store, not at home. So it's quite unlikely.

You can always sieve them out if you're a vegetarian.

    It's a silver lining I guess.

thats wright them wee evil things iv seen them in my house. Didnt know about them and a discussion in work one day it came up and i went home to check out flour that had been in my cupboard for years. There very small like the size of a dust particle and you only notice them by looking for several minutes at one spot and the whole thing is alive. There in air tight containers now and i would eat them any way if i had too, that small wouldnt even notice them.

You may be going on 'Old Style' but really, weevils are things of the distant past. You're not going to find them in your flour these days. :-)

When I read about them I went straight out and bought some of those Click/Lock boxes. Next bag of flour I get I'll be popping it in the fridge ice box and flicking the switch over until it's built up some ice in there (my icebox is the sort that ou can put frozen goods into it and the next day they've thawed out)

Has anyone started to stock up on basic foodstuffs etc in case they or their partners are made redundant?

I think I read somewhere that you were best to have enough dry/tinned foodstuffs in for up to 6 months (not so much frozen in case we start having power cuts).

now i no why theres no bread left in tesco lol
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you
  • I too stockpile forthe following reasons

    a) financial crisis (there have been tough times in my life)
    b) bulk buying generally saves money in the long run
    c) interest earned on foodstores is better than the bank interest rate (at present)

I believe my stockpile saves me time money and worry i do not believe the end of the world is nigh!!

    Great thread

Yes, but not stocked up through fear of redundancy but because we bulk buy for convenience (saves petrol for multi trips) and to take advantage of cheaper prices.
