  • I purchase my soap powder from Costco last year I bought a box of Persil non-bio and it was 9.5kg for about £14 and it did 130 washes approx last week I bought a new box thinking it was the same as the price is the same but it is 9.0kg and 90 washes!!!

Total rip-off I too will be complaining to Persil and Costco and will definately be using less than the recommended dosage.

Wilkinsons have also reduced their own-brand ASTRON powder from 1.15kg to 1kg. Still the same price of £1.29.

The recommended dosing instructions are still the same quantities as before though, so rip-off city. :(

I have been using about half the recommended dose for some time now and I really fail to see the difference to clothing. Most of our clothes have only been worn for a day anyway, esp underwear, blouses etc, so not really that dirty to start with.

Just got a box of Tesco powder & it now says you get 33% extra free which takes it back to its original wash size (40 washes) which is what they have just reduced it from a little while ago!

Haha that makes me laugh, Tesco are always doing things like that even on the online shop. They put things up to a really stupid price, I think they put strawberrys to £3.98 for a few weeks online and I stopped buying them coz it was ridiculas then all of a sudden it was plastered all over strawberrys half price. I don't know why they do that
    Thanx

  • Watch the scoops as well! I recently bought a 7k Persil on special offer from Makro (I am sure the big boxes used to be 9k!) and the scoop included was huge - no doubt to encourage passive over use. I junked it and use the tiny scoop I have had for years. The wash appears just as clean using half the recommended dose. Dried cat food is another whinge. Big brands are at least £1 a kilo ,even wholesale. The cheapest are Aldi's at 87p a kilo and the cats don't seem to notice the difference.

A few weeks ago I saw Tesco selling cherries at £5.99/kilo. I happily passed those cherries each week hoping the onset of mildew would change their minds. Not surprisingly what did they do a few weeks later - half price cherries £2.99/kilo.

Must have realised they weren't shifting much stock :D

It is obvious why they do it. So they can say it half price and you think you are getting a bargain.

Mind you I did have a chuckle about the tescos washing powder having a 33% extra in it.

I did buy it as I can't seem to get big boxes of colour care washing powder. So bought one. Naugthy seeing as I am not trying to spend any money in Mr T's.

But a 4KG box will last for ever as I only normally do 2 loads aweek unless whites are due. And always use less as my clothes are never dirty. And the ones that are are always treated before they go in the machine.

My washing machine is all gooed up. Theres black stuff in and behind the drawer.
Sometimes clothes get marked coming out of the door, where the black stuff is in the rubber seal. Any ideas on shifting this quickly? I've tried an empty wash with Soda Crystals but it did nothing...

There must be an old wives trick out there somewhere... :)
  • Welcome to the world of the supermarket. As with the January sales our friends in the stores of inconenvenince see an oppertunity to increase their prices, knowing that not many will be spending much until February when it is

20,000 lines reduced since January 2006. Vote with your feet and get real food, from your local butcher and baker. Get your vegetables from the grocer, and you'll never go back.
