Thank you for your email.
The European Union are working with Laundry Detergent manufacturers to reduce the amount of chemicals in the environment. To this end the amount of bulking agents (those parts of the powder that carry the cleaning product) has been reduced - effectively making the powder more concentrated.
Over the coming months all washing powders will reduce in size by approximately 10%. Ariel, Daz, Bold and Own Label products have already moved.
The amount of doses in each box hasn't reduced, just the amount of powder needed to do each wash.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us at customer.service@tesco.co.uk quoting TES1680498X.
Kind Regards
This is the response from Tesco's. I have written back to ask the clarify their comment that the amount of doses in each box hasn't reduced as their packaging clearly says otherwise. The old 15 wash box is now 10 and the old 45 wash box. According to my simple maths that 1/3 less washes.
I'll keep you updated.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I noticed surf powder had gone down to a 1kg box a couple of months ago. I now use Aldi washing liquid it lasts for ages and its really good. Can't remember exactly how much it costs though less than £1.80 and it lasts for thirty washes!0

Anyone noticed difference in quantities for dishwashing powder etc. Just curious, don't have a DW, but just wondered if the DW powder would/has headed the same way as laundry soap.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. If I remember rightly some powder sizes disappeared a year or so ago. I don't think there has been any change lately. I don't use tablets as they stick in my machine so I always use the powder. Found now mostly small bottles available not the bigger one (especially in the cheaper brands).~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Who knows, perhaps they are just blinding us with BS. I have a scoop from a box of Vanish Oxy Action which I use for my washing powder. I used to use three scoops for the dispenser, now I'm just going to use two, and hopefully the washing powder will last the same length of time, despite being 450 grams less in weight.
They (Tesco) tell us that there is 30 washes per box, yet the powder is more concentrated, so we should be getting 45 washes per box. Tesco won't say there's 45 a box because if we use more powder, then we'll have to buy more sooner. They want to sell more powder, so they tell us there's 30 washes, not 45. Where does it say it's a new concentrated powder, anywhere???? ASA/Trading Standards starting to come to mind??? Blinding with BS???
You can put any barcode of any laundry powder in to this link and it will come up with the ingredients.
Here is info from www.detergentinfo.com
http://www.detergentinfo.com/eng/gb/product/5051008084535
Ingredients are from 15/08/2005 until present. As far as I know Zeolite is the bulking agent.
This is what is in the Tesco Colours 3 kg box of powder.
It'd be great if someone had a box from the 3.45kg. Anyone out there withh a 3.45kg box, just to compare the info on the box.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
aldi washing machine tablets 48 in box ALMAT non-bio or coloured upto 24 washes £2.99 a box. excellent stuff been using it for years now, we use the non-bio and we also get (non aldi - surcare conditioner) you see i suffer from excema and my son and daughter suffer from excema as well and they are just the best. i recommend them better than - comfort pure (makes my excema real bad) and the almat/aldi - non bio is way better than fairy and lots more cheaper.0
