My 11 year old son was all excited when I gave him his £100 Zavvi Voucher. The amount was a combination of gifts from his Grandmothers / Grandfather. I decided to buy all my pressie early and bought the vouchers on the 25 November.
The poor lad sat down on Christmas day and wrote out all his games, DVD and CDs he was going to buy on boxing day and as they say the rest is history.
It has cost me another £100, sat down with him today and ordered everything he wanted from Amazon. Am I upset? Yes! but what can I do about it, absolutely nothing.
Consumers should be protected against these things happening. Zavvi shop in Watford is full with goods and I've a £100 Zavvi voucher but cannot buy a £1.99 cd, how can that be fair? I'll never buy another vouchers in a million years and my feeling sorry for these shop going bust has just gone out the window... Yes they have turned me into a very bitter person.0 -
sure there is, as i said storm in, grab what you want, slap the voucher down and walk out.
seriously what are they going to do, say sorry we have robbed you but well are going to call security for paying with a gift voucher.
dont just sit back and get robbed0 -
I can't afford a criminal record. :hello:
My dad used to say steal from a thief is fair game but I think I'll just take my loses and walk away.0 -

Even if you were caught, there is a legal defence that you honestly did not believe that you were stealing. It's a little known defgence. I know someone who (in totally different circumstances) got a not guilty verdict. A lot of hassle and might need a clever lawyer though. Also, it was 30 years ago so may have changed.

Have you ever walked out of a store like Zavvi, Smiths or HMV, and the alarms go off? I normally pause, look around, no one bothers to come over, so I leave. Ive not stolen anything I hasten to add, but whatever has set the alarm off, no one in the shop seems to give a !!!!!.0

Last week I was setting of the alarms at Sainsbury's for goods I had paid for in the clothing section. When I paid for my food setting off another alarm the shop assistant couldn't find anything wrong. I walked out the main store directly past the security guard setting of 3 alarms and nothing happened.
Likewise I've had security tags left on other items and walked out of shops, and the alarms haven't been set off.
The only hassle is if it's clothes then you have to go back with your receipt and ask them to take the tag off. Some staff stare at you like a criminal so I tell them that if their colleagues did their jobs properly this wouldn't have happened.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

The statement from the administrators makes it sound like the money is held in trust, in which case the person who bought the voucher can get the money back in preference to any creditor. If there's a lot of money in vouchers then the other creditors might challenge the trust but these things are generally set up professionally (so long as the company didn't use the funds to fund its business).
Woolworths honoured their vouchers, presumably for the same reason. I remember Lewis's in Liverpool didn't properly honour its vouchers - very naughty, they said, 'you can use your £10 voucher only on a £30 spend' or something similar.0 -

Problem is with this is that you are going across the line I am sure you would not normally cross and secondly as you know the gift vouchers are valid even though you think they are - we wont go into the legalities on that one but as you know they wont take em then technically you are stealing or at least making off without payment.
Its liek going into a store and offering to pay with shirt buttons, you know they are not valid .
All this does not take away from teh fact that the administrators are being very harsh here. As I said they will get all of their fees paid in full so really they are just making sure there is enoght for them. Conyos.Self confessed Florida expertwith over 320 trips there!
