My opinion.
By not accepting their own Vouchers in exchange for their own goods they are more than likely breaching the sale of goods act.
The vouchers no longer correspond to the description that they were sold under. They are worthless and hence are not of satisfactory quality.
They are not fit for purpose.
Contact trading standards.
If the original purchaser paid more than £100 of vouchers, with a credit card, then there may be scope for a Consumer Credit Act Section 75 claim against the credit card company and the supplier.

You will get fook all apart from the administrators who will get every single penny of their fee paid in full. SO notch your ten, twenty of 50 quid up as the accounts fee. Cos they really need itSelf confessed Florida expert

I would give the staff some entertainment instead. May cheer them up a bit.Joe_Bloggs wrote: »

It's a case of reading the small print in your credit card t&c as it may be regarded as cash.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Perhaps It should be standard procedure to ring fence money, taken as gift vouchers, to protect it for the consumer, from the hands of potential administrators. This will assist the gift voucher market. As it stands the purchase of gift vouchers is to be avoided. Some administrators may see gift vouchers as free money. There may be a consumer backlash against this treatment of their funds. These funds were already a free loan until they were redeemed !

Some people's attitudes towards the staff of Zavvi are absolutely disgraceful. Fair enough, some have lost out when it comes to gift cards... it's hardly the fault of the staff though, so why take it out on them? I've heard customers swearing at and threatening staff, being aggressive towards them, talking over them and telling them they're 'robbing them blind'.
It's unfair. Whatever happened to common decency?0 -

of course thats well wrong innit but people want someone to vent at and they are there in the uniform telling em that there gift cards are worthless. heat of the moment, it iant right but many do it and you can understand why they do and afterwards I bet they feel sorry for shouting at hte spotty kid behind the counter.

walk in, pick something of the same value, walk up to the counter and give them vouchers, walk out.
the staff woulnt give a monkeys and i doubt they can call security
Do this. Shoplifting is defined as taking an item and then leaving the store making no attempt to pay. If you give vouchers you are clearly attempting to pay. In theory Zavvi could take civil action aginst you but this is not very likely.
Currently Zavvi stores have no security guards as their contract with the security the company has been terminated.0 -
Look what happened with Farepak, that was pretty similar to all these voucers/gift cards
The Post Office run a Christmas Club, which lets you spend the money at a whole range of stores, they also sell gift vouchers valid at a lot of places.
Maybe its time for retailers not to have their own vouchers, but to join schemes where the vouchers are valid in a variety of places.0
