OH is absolutely determined that we won't feed Isaac such stories. he thinks they are fundamentally dishonest.

You need to be careful there as you are going to have to teach your child tact.

I've had quietly stop 5/6/7 year old children from telling their own or their friends' younger brothers and sisters that Santa ain't real.

And I use to have fun with the tooth fairy I managed on two occasions to get 3 of my family to give me money for having a tooth out. For some reason I was good at placing the tooth just under my head. :rotfl::rotfl:

And to make it worse I knew the tooth fairy didn't exist.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

WHAT ? You have destroyed my dreams now, having all my teeth out and putting them under my pillow was my back up plan for when the economy really goes to pot!

Job vs Vouchers got me thinking about a childhood memory I have which I can now look back at warmly.

Basically, we wern't a well off family (no violins please!) but I had been looking forward to a new "Transformer" for what seemed like years and just knew Santa would bring it to me, after all I had been really good and done all my chores! My parents would keep telling me before the day that sometimes Santa can't bring everything that is asked for, as sometimes he needs to help the poorer kids...my parents did, and still do love me and have enstilled the beleif that there's always someone worse off than me.

Alas, Christmas day came, and at six years old it was hard to hide my disapointment when I opened the very small pile of presents, no Transformers, and no cool toys like my friends would get - I soon picked up even at that age that it was my parents who were more disapointed than me. I remember it still now (24 years on) - but we had a great day anyway, went to the park and played - I even got to have a go on a friends new bike!

Did it upset me, yes - did I get over it, of course (and I think i'm better for that period of time).

Oh and I would stress that my parents would do anything for me, but you see, my Dad had not long before been made redundant from his job at Halfords. Funny really because most people would assume he didn't have a family working in a shop, or that he could easily find a job elsewhere - he tried, but it took a while.

I think the answer to the question is obvious to anyone with good moral grounding, but to think that a kids disapointment and the loss of jobs is mutually exclusive is clearly incorrect.

I geniunely feel for anyone who is effected by this downturn, either by loss of vouchers, or job security and would assure you all that things usually turn out for the best! - My Dad's been employed for 20 years now and will soon be drawing a good pension - and I got my transformer from a car boot sale a few months after (it was rubbish!).

All the best to you all x

So are most people. Teach him to lie, and lie well. I mean, let's be honest for a moment - not one of us is on the level on here surely?

I'm with NDG's OH on this one. I enjoyed Father Christmas as a child, but I knew from the beginning that it was pretend, and that didn't alter my enjoyment of it. Likewise, I've always been honest with my kids that it's pretend, and they're fine. I want them to know that what I tell them is true, and I try very hard not to lie to them. That doesn't mean I always tell them the whole truth about everything all the time, but what I do tell them is true.

I don't expect everyone else to do the same, and I impress on my kids the importance of not telling other children!
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Has your OH told Isaac there is a god?

I left it to my children to decide for themselves if they wanted to believe in god.

My daughter, the budding scientist and mathematician, soon worked out that father christmas couldn't get down the chimneys, as the space wasn't big enough for his body to fit. She also worked out who was taking FCs mince pie and whiskey and Rudolph's carrot.

She couldn't make her mind up about the tooth fairies, so use to leave them letters with a list of questions.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Would someone who knows how be able to add a poll to this thread, so we can see how many people have sent their gift cards to administrators, how many are holding out and if anyone ever receives anything back or is able to spend their vouchers? Might be helpful if this situation arises again with another company? Is it something others would like to see?
