Never like the navigon software much but i guess thats because ive been using tomtom for yrs and found it spot on all the time.0

Hmm, I never managed to find a pre-planning option on the Medion s/w but it sounds like you did Dennis99.
BTW does it keep the planned route after you exit the application or do you need to re-calculate once you are in the car?
Scooter - try "Advanced Planning". Give Tomtom a start & end and it will calculate the route there and then. The route will stay even if you exit the application.
As for the route planning, I can't comment too much as I've not yet done a long journey.
BTW, what version of the Tomtom maps are you using?
For me the Medion was always around 20m behind my actual position which meant it would sometimes tell me to turn left after I'd already turned. I was surprised to find Tomtom got my position much closer.
As for the speed, you are indeed correct, it could be my speedo. However, with the Medion I tested it on a road with Gatso's and a 60mph spped limit which everyone gets as close to as they can. When my I was going the same speed as other cars (I'd guess around 55-58mph) the Medion would tell me I was going 50mph while my speedo would say just below 60mph. Tomtom seems much closer to my speedo reading for me. Not what I would call proof but for me I'd rather my GPS was telling me a similar speed to my speedo than wondering which one is correct.
The POI warner in Tomtom is just fine for me. I read it's 40 different types of POI. *shrugs* I can't see me needing any more.
You also can't use POI-Warner on the Medion. You need POI-Observer which is not the easiest to set up even with the fantastic efforts of one of our own.
BTW tomtom seems to work out my route (without GPS signal) in a few seconds while Medion could take more than a minute (let me put it this way, by the time it calculated my route I'd be quite a distance from home!). The difference for me is far more than 10 secs!
I suppose the point here is that for me (on a short test), tomtom is a better option. For others I'm sure Medion is the better bet.
On a slightly seperate note, I was surprised at the accuracy differences between the two programs. I thought it was the GPS that was out by 20m with the Medion but it seems it was the software. Strange.0 -
Has anyone done any tests to see how long the battery lasts on these?
I'd be interested to know how long the battery goes for without recharge if it plays a video constantly. Also if possible, audio/songs only (eg. mp3).
Anyone know?0 -

With the Medion, I was able to travel 7 miles into a 13 mile Journey, approx. 15 minutes, before the map finally appeared this morning.
I have placed a support call with Medion on this - will post any info from it on this thread.-=Mr-J=-0 -

Are we both talking Navigator 5 here as the route planning section has a Save and Open facility, the positioning is accurate, the route planning is fast on shorter routes but does take up to a minute for Norfolk to Aberdeen for instance and the speed display when compared to my Combo Van speedo is within a couple of mph. I also find its better to wait half a minute on the drive for a lock on the sats before starting a journey for best accuracy.0 -

Point 1. what I am saying is it doesnt matter if you can plan the route before a signal... . Even though you can plan before the signal you still have to wait for a signal for it to verify the route so this option doesnt really mean anything.
2. Maps are version 605
3. are you using the R3 update or just the normal firmware. The one I had would only lock onto 5 sats but after R3 I get 9 but for some reason the most TOMTOM will lock onto is 6.
4. I do a lot of driving around (campsites, fishing) and I have 58 different types of POI loaded.
5. POI-Warner is now available for Medion Navigator 5 ... Go to thier page and you will see it.
6. with navigator always getting a lock in under 30 seconds and then calculating a route to coventry (317Mls) or London (412Mls) total process is 55 secs for coventry and 1 minute for london. Tom Tom takes over 1 minute for lock and verifying route for both. In fact because of where my house is I have to wait for the signal to kick in as TOMTOM always wants to send me out of my place by the longest route possible and round streets I have never used in my life. If I use it from where I stay it has to use 4 route corrections. With Navigators learning capability it knows I leave by the same route. TOMTOM constantly ignores this.
Another point. Used TOMTOM all day today in works van. Covered over 230 miles in a 12 hour period. I have done this with Medion and Navigon no problem.. Maps are totally up to date. Today TOMTOM had 4 roads in Glasgow city centre as one way (when they arent) tried to send me down a one way street and lost signal 14 times. Also kept switching roads as well and couldnt keep up with van and showed position as being behind almost all day. TomTom also showed my speed as zero for 10 minutes today and put me in a field for 3 of them. Also this morning for the first time I tried TOMTOM with a cold start (usually when I compare I use Navigon/Medion first then switch. I drove to work (11miles) and only when I stopped for a few minutes at work did TOMTOM get a lock.
It looks like some people have different views on the products. Medion Navigator does have some issues and I suppose because it is cut down TomTom might look like a better option but when I bought it that was the biggest mistake I made. Navigon is now my first choice as it is the complete version of the medion and by far in my opinion superior to TOMTOM5.0 -

Can I just copy the whole internal flash disk and then copy back when needed (previous windows experience tells me no!) or is there some utility out there I can use?0 -
hi all
i have been reading comments in this thread for some time now.it is interesting to see the comparsion between medion and tt5 having tried both i must agree that tt5 is the prefered software from me.i also tried an experiment with mdppc150 and hp1930 in a powered cradle,on the outward journey i used 1930 with a new fast memory card(100x)and it reacted much faster in every way and even gave me max sat strenght.on return i swapped card into medion with same result also with both machines running together i get exactly same speed reading which is 5mph slower in car but only 1mph in truck0 -

Unfortunately the PPC doesn't show up in my current version as any sort of 'drive' or 'device', although my multi-card reader shows up. I'd also like to be able to open to examine files residing on the PPC from the PC, but haven't found any suitable s/w.
If you've got XP:
Start>My Computer>Mobile Device
and off you go "to open to examine files residing on the PPC from the PC"
or am I missing something?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
