I mentioned in an earlier post (#264) that I had Medion navigator and TomTom running on the MDPPC150's internal memory and the originally-supplied Medion 256Mb SD card. Haven't had any problem doing that. I'll eventually be splitting them, but like you, I wanted to be able to compare them easily. After installing relevant POI's and Safety Camera information for both systems too, there's not a lot of memory left to play with, however.0 -

What are the extra functions? Anyone know...and does it have more up to date maps?
The problem is that although I quite like Medion Navigator the maps are quite out of date in my area (eg show a petrol station that closed down 4 years ago and is missing a number of smaller roundabouts). As this is going to be primarily for my wife who gets confused when told "go straight across" at roundabouts I need a satnav program that's as up to date as possible.
Oh yes, and is it possible to use full postcode navigation on Navigon?
TIA for any help.0 -

Hi there - I am not sure that any navigation system records all mini-roundabouts (neither Medion, nor TomTom5 navigator provides visibility of any of the mini-roundabouts local to me). The Medion maps are pretty up-to-date with new local roads round here.
On the POI front (such as petrol stations), however, these are available, and can be updated separately from the maps. In post #1 on this thread, from ShaunJUK, you will find one such method for the Medion Navigator, called POI Observer, and there is an easy installation file. I've used it and it has worked just fine for me.
On the TomTom5 front, as well as thiis thread, you might look at the MDPPC150 (Mio 168) thread on https://www.pocketgpsworld.com for lots of information about firmware upgrades and POI data insertion. Best of luck.0 -

Navigon Had a map update just a few months ago with speed limits added (so you get told speeds of any major road you are on.) It has Voice tags as well for destinations and comes being TCM enabled so you can get weather and traffic updates with the correct adapter (The AA do this service for a one off fee of £99 including the adapter to get it working). The Navigon lets you use a 4 digit post code search. The POI's for me are a bit out of date but not as bad as TOMTOM5.0 -
just wondering, has anyone tried to replace the built in speaker to a better one? One that doesn't crackle above 65% volume....0

Mine doesn't do anything, it just sits there in it's plastic bag, teasing me, tempting me, daring me to open it.
Sometimes I feel myself falling under it's spell and I reach out to pick it up..........
...............and then 'Oi! What do you think you're doing?' shouts Mrs Shaboo, 'It's not your birthday yet, get yer mitts off it!!'

think its just the way they make these things.... my cousins medion pda does the same, and when i had an old dell axim x5 that did the same as well.... and usually i have music in the car so i keep the volume to about 70% or so which starts to crackle....0

Well thanks to everyone that answered.
I did some research and opted for tomtom as it had the full postcode search and speed camera warnings built in.
I bought a 512mb SD card and transferred the Medion maps to it. I then installed tomtom and the speed camera database (and a few other POI's). I haven't had a chance to test it properly yet but apart from the aforementioned "no signal" issue everything seems to be co-existing nicely.
Funny thing is, since I got it I've not had to go anywhere I don't know.....d'oh!0
