What are you doing, Whats the problem (installing, Not running, No GPS detected, no signal, what version of TOMTOM 5 is it 5.1,5.21. Any other problems?) R3 was an upgrade to get the strength meter working NOT to get TOMTOM working. It still worked without R3. Have you registered tomtom at the website (it doesnt work unless you have, it wont detect any maps, you have to enter the correct key)
  • There are still some Micromaxx PDA's available in Somerfield in the Edinburgh area.

I picked up the Micromaxx (Medion) at Somerfield recently. I've installed the POIObserver and the relevant POIs (many thanks for the efforts in earlier posts on that front, by the way), and with the relevant upgrades advised in this thread, I was also able to install TT5 Navigator alongside the Medion Navigator. I now have loads of relevant POIs and safety Camera data for that system too. All of this resides (without much leeway, I am afraid, until my larger SD card arrives) on the onboard memory, and the original 256Mb SD card.

Whilst the TT5 system seems to be more versatile in many respects, I actually prefer the Medion Navigator, finding it's 'human interface' much more to my own personal taste. The TT5, I have installed because I was able to obtain maps for the various countries I visit regularly (including the US) and by juggling maps around on my laptop and SD cards, I'll be able to use that in hire cars, and in cities I visit. All in all, a very versatile unit for £130 (excluding the TT5 software).

At the same time as I got the PDA, I also obtained the Garmin i3 for a young relative, a novice driver. I did this on behalf of a number of us who are contributing to the cost for an imminent birthday present. It really is a fabulous bit of kit for under £100, and again, the guys on this board and PocketGPSWorld have enabled me to enhance the facitlities this little gem offers. It will greatly enhance the driving confidence of our young relative, who is now helping to cope with ageing dependents. Money well spent on our behalf, I believe.

Finally, I'd just like to thank, once again, all those who have diligently put in their time and effort, here and on other boards, to provide straightforward methods to enhance the SATNAV capability we now have available to us on these bargains.

I found a couple of items related to the SiRF Xtrac v2, and what the firmware upgrades are supposed to do:-

Hi I've managed to get a PDA for myself and my father.

My Dads PDA came with the version 5 of the Navigator software mine with the 4.4.

The 5 looks a lot better and seems to be more functional.Does anyone know of any reason that I can't load the 5 onto my PDA by just using a blank card and copying the card of my Dads Pda onto that.

The PDa with 5 on does looka later model number but esentially the same are there going to be any hardware issues in running the later software on the older PDA

Just to update I managed to get navigator 5 on my PDA and it works ok BUT it is a lot slower that 4.4 noticeably so.I guess its all the eye candy etc to such an extent seriously thinking of going back to 4.4.

Also it doesn't turn itself off completely.I've also got TomTom on my PDA and after running Navigator 5 TT couldn't get a signal.I realised that Navigator was still running even though I exited/stopped.If I went to running programs it was still down as running.I had to manually stop it in order to get TT detecting signals again.

Also Navigator 5 in my case doesn't turn off the GPS after its closed I again have to turn that off manually.

I'm pretty sure I have followed the advice of Mr_J in #194 (see below....I hope), and it seems to do the trick for my Medion PDA. The only thing that appears to be still running on my unit, after I log out of Medion Navigator, is the POI Observer file, which hasn't interfered, as far as I can tell, with my switching between navigator systems. Hope it works for you.

I use a utility program called 'close all' which I found on https://www.pocketpcfreewares.com I also use 'Launcher' to put shortcut icons on the Today page and the 'Total Commander' file manager to create, move and copy shortcuts. 'Close all' saves having to navigate to the system/memory page to 'close all running programs' but coveniently it dosn't close 'activesync' if you're connected to your PC.

  • Has anyone succesfully searched for addresses using the post code? I have one with medion navigator 5 and it just doesnt seem to work. Can anyone confirm if there is an upgrade for this software to 5.1? and if so is the problem fixed with this version? I'm sure I've read somewhere about a 5.1 version but there's nothing on the medion website  .

I have managed to get the speed camera info on from the 1st post so many thanks for that. Is anyone using POI warner with Navigon 5 and if so how are they finding it? as it looks like there is alot of usefull stuff available with this software.

    Cheers,
    Mark
