does it come with an external gps unit/aerial as standard?

No, but you can get them on eBay for about £10-£12. Requires the type with the MMCX connector.

Just a little note... I used the R3 firmware upgrade to get TomTom working. I Had to revert back to the newest Medion firmware as it was causing problems with Navigon navigator (loosing GPS signal after 20-25 minutes). I dont know if this would be the same with the Medion version but just a little warning. It works flawlessly now

Ok I finally decided to download speed camera data etc - I thought someone posted a simple guide here, but I can find it - could someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks,

The only one I found is POI Warner, but you have to pay for it, is there not a free one for the micromaxx?

    Thanks.

  • Managed to get one of the PDA systems. On reading this forum It seems there are two versions that have been supplied by Somerfield. One with Medion version 4.4 and one with micromaxx version 5. The version 4.4 system as far as I am aware does not support postcode destination entry.

The version I have bought is the 4.4 version. I have still not opened the box yet so I could return it or sell it on ebay. I have also rang around all my local stores and they only have the Medion.

I am in two minds now as to wether I should keep it and put TomTom on it or return it. My original plan before seeing this offer was to get a second hand orange c500 off e bay and put TomTom mobile on it

    Any advice appreciated

I have had both Medion and Micromaxx versions. Just buy TOMTOM and put it on the medion. Its the same price for the PDA version as it is for the mobile version. from what I hear the c500 still needs the bluetooth GPS reciever so it works out the same. Also from what I read the c500 finds it difficult doing anything else apart from run TOMTOM 5 and you have to upgrade it to the latest version as well. some people have had the phone hang if someone tries to call There is also the problem of having to have the GPS connected to the power source so you cant charge your phone as well (unless you get a splitter)

In fact try the navigator 4 first and if you like it you could buy Navigon Navigator 5 for the PDA for £117. In my opinion Navigon is the better option.

In case anyone else encounters the same problem as me (described 5-2-06 9:30 a.m.), what you need to do is a soft reset and then the Test Raw and Test GPS buttons work as described and you can carry on with the rest of the set up.

Hi I've managed to get a PDA for myself and my father.

My Dads PDA came with the version 5 of the Navigator software mine with the 4.4.

The 5 looks a lot better and seems to be more functional.Does anyone know of any reason that I can't load the 5 onto my PDA by just using a blank card and copying the card of my Dads Pda onto that.

The PDa with 5 on does looka later model number but esentially the same are there going to be any hardware issues in running the later software on the older PDA

I dont know about the medion version of Navigator 5 Running but the retail version of Navigon Mobile Navigator (its the Medion version of this thats supplied) runs fine on it. Why not just try it because you can always do a full reset and put it back to factory settings
