ok... guess its different for other people.... i noticed a lag straight away using the original 256mb card and the one i had lying around....
Different SD cards (and presumably MMC cards) have different read/write rates. When I was looking for a faster 512Mb card for my mp3 player, so that I could also use it in a future multimegapix camera, I bought a Twinmos 66x from CCL. Generally the bigger the card the faster it operates but only because it can use parallel channels to shift the data in and out of its internal banks of memory.

I managed to get TomTom 5 running better by making sure all other programs were closed. I just closed all programs before starting TOMTOM using the stop all tasks menu and now it seems to be more accurate although I Still have problems when TOMTOM tells me to take a slip road and I dont then it can take up to 3 minutes for tom tom to stop following the route and eventually show me on the correct road and re-route to destination. Navigon can do this in 5-10 seconds on the same route.

Just one other point.TOMTOM sticks to a route constantly. When trying it out from work to home it allways tells me to take an exit early but it is quicker for me to stay on the motorway and take an exit 3 miles further on. I have tried this using fastest and shortest route options but its always the same. However Navigon told me to take the exit once but I didnt and went my usual way. The next time the route was planned it took me the way I always go home.....no more telling me to exit early. There is no mention of any learning facility on the box or on any of the DVD's but Im not complaining

You've answewred my question - I take a diffrent route to avoid two road humps - My PDA also learn't the route, but I thought it was me going mad. Mmmmm - useful I think, but why would you want to use Sat Nat for routes you already Know.???

Normally, TT5 takes me one way to work and a different way home (the routes make sense).
This morning it surprised me and took me the 'return journey' route (in reverse) to work. Only difference was the time I left (earlier).

I switched to the TT5 software because Navigon took too long to calculate the routes.

For example, it takes TT5 around 2-3 seconds to calc my route to work.

Navigon took around 4-5 minutes! I'm getting a paranoid feeling nobody elses Navigon Software is quite so slow. What sort of timings do others get?

NB: Route to work is approx 20 miles and tranverses approx 8 A-type roads. Not really that complicated.

  • navigator used to try to send me right throught the middle of a very busy town on my way home from work but has since learned that i take the bypass. Quite alarmingly tho it is still trying to send me the wrong way around a roundabout!?!?

Are you using Navigon or the Medion version of Navigon that came with the PDA. I have the actuall navigon mobile navigator Not the Medion mobile navigator. Planning trips takes about 10 seconds on both for me but TOMTOM takes longer to recognise I have taken a wrong turn and re-route. Also both versions of Navigator suffer from closing down problems. You have to actually use the exit button from within the program and cant stop it by just closing the window. This causes it to slow down if you then start it again. I also get GPS recognition problems if I dont use the exit button and POI-Warner doesnt function right either.

Good point, I did not think about there being a difference.

It's the Medion Navigator version 5.

What's the battery life on these PDAs?
How long will the battery last if it were to continuously:
    1. play videos
    2. play mp3s
    3. use GPS
assuming each thing is done continously until the battery dies.

    4. Also, can you switch the screen off to save battery power if you want to listen to music only - if yes, how long will the battery last for in this mode?
