Mine locked up today - firstly it took about 10 minutes to lock onto a signal, when it did it seemed OK, but I did loos the arrow showing where I was once. I powered it off and when I powered it back on later, the screen was covered in diffrent cloured lines running up and down. The only way I could resolve it was to do a hard reset - thereby losing everything.
Mmmmmmmmmmm I'm warming even more to the Garmin.0 -

If the icon at bottom left does not have a little red box, then your GPS is on.
You can configure the SATNAV software to switch it on/off automatically when you start/stop it. Mine was like this by default, but it is possible that not all PPCs have the same configuration.
Sorry should have you can configure the MEDION Software to switch it on/off automatically when you start/stop it.
Start > Settings > System Tab > System Utility > GPS Tab > Tick Turn on GPS automatically when opening COM1
Some further GPS related battery saving options can be found under the GPS Advanced Tab-=Mr-J=-0 -

settings>system>backlight
settings>system>system utility>gps advanced
The second one overides the first when the GPS unit is switched on. If Medion-Navigator is running it will autoswitch the GPS unit back on if manually switched off. Navigator needs to be 'exit-ed' or switched off via settings>system>memory>running programs. A few programs don't stop running when the X button is used, so it's worth checking 'running programs' to see which they are, as they all consume more memory when 'running'. Unfortunately Medion-Navigator program 'nightmode' doesn't seem to set or overide that setting. Neither does settings/preferences>representation>shade at night (in Navigator).0 -
Thanks ShaunJUK for collating the info onto the first post, POI Observer installation went smoothly. How many people have tried updating firmware to V10, I have updated to R3 and get a pretty good sattellite pickup, but I have found the arrow pinpointing your position on the road a little behind where you actually are. Do not wish to update a working GPS for the sake of having the latest version if there is no visible difference.
I have found in Settings-Route Options you can change your mode from standard car to Fast or Slow car, bike or pedestrian. I will test changing it to fast car and see if that improves it before firmware or software upgrade.(aint broke dont fixit)
If V10 firmaware upgrade has been successfull for you please let me know if its worth the risk.0 -

Hmm, I thought the reason it lagged behind was down to the current satellite reception - good reception pinpoints your location better than bad reception. So when it lagged behind it was down to not great reception.
Maybe I'm wrong though....in which case does anyone have a solution?
In fact has anyone using TomTom experienced it?0 -
How accurate is GPS? Surely there must be a slight difference of a few metres. I was sitting in traffic yesterday and at each junction I passed the pointer was a little out but not that much!0

TomTom sometimes lags behind if I dont have a route set. When the route is set it is nearly always correct. Navigon version 5.1 seems a bit more accurate. I installed it and it even gives the option for voice commands as well so you can just say a favourite place and it automatically starts the route. It also has a bit more info like roadsigns and more accurate POI info (for me at least) as the ones with TomTom show garages and shops that have been closed for over 2 years and even some garages in the wrong place0

Having difficulty downloading your POI easy set up file. Keep getting error message to say file not found on server. Any ideas?0

ramit wrote:I had a similar problem with my MicroMaxx PDA and solved it in the following way:
I used Leadtek's 'GPS Winfast Monitor' application (available on gpsworld site from the 'Downloads' section at http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=8), to change the messages sent by the Royaltek GPS.
If you get the application 'talking' to the GPS (Use the following settings:
Select serial 2 on COM1 and 4800) and then go 'Tools - Command - NMEA', you'll be able to change what messages are sent , and how often.
Changing the settings for the baudrate 4800 to the following will fix this:-
GGA 1 VTG 1
GLL 2 MSS 2
GSA 5
GSV 5
RMC 1
with all the User entries as 0.
Hit OK, completely exit and kill GPS Monitor, start your TomTom and you should get the correct display.
Hope it helps!0
