I did some research and opted for tomtom as it had the full postcode search and speed camera warnings built in.
My TOMTOM 5 didnt have the speed cameras built in. I had to download and install them myself... TOMTOM charge 70 euros a year for thier database per year0 -
I got a Micromaxx MPPC150 from Kwik Save in Leeds last week. Very impressd with it overall.
The one problem I have is that I can't get it to display upcoming events/all day events in the Today screen. I've ticked the appropriate boxes in the Today settings menu so that these should be displayed but it just won't have it.
Anyone with the same problem ?0 -
For no apparent reason, my 150 did the equivalent of a Hard Reset today.
Got home from work, detached the power, pressed the button on the side to go into standby (leaving TT5 running) and put it in my pocket.
Took it out about 10 minutes later and the 'default' setup is there - no tasks, appointments or anything.
Going to have to set everything back up, but in the meantime does anyone know how to 'backup' the 150 so I can avoid any upsets in the future?
Can I just copy the whole internal flash disk and then copy back when needed (previous windows experience tells me no!) or is there some utility out there I can use?-=Mr-J=-0 -
start>programs>backup> and choose what to back up or all0

No neither did mine. I went to http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php
downloaded it there and the rest was easy. I even added the voice files so it will say "Gatso 30/40/50/etc" rather than just bong.
I got a load of POI's free from here:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtompoi.php
which were again very easy to install.
Now all I have to do is get around to testing it in real life situations!0 -
OK tested TomTom on a very short trip today and here's my impressions:
Takes longer than Medion Navigator to get a satellite lock when it starts. However, it seems to be quicker when calculating the route - you can also do it while at home without any satellite lock - unlike Medion (at least I couldn't find a way to do that). That ability saves lots of time on more complex journeys. So overall I would say that the amount of time at the beginning of your journey before satnav can begin is about equal.
Tomtom seems to be more accurate with where you actually are when driving.
Also more accurate with your current speed.
The built-in POI warner is great.
And the full post code search is very useful.
Overall I'm pretty happy with Tomtom so far.0 -

When you say it seems quicker, would I be correct in assuming the difference you see is marginal, and not a case of seconds (for TT5) vs. minutes (for MN5)?-=Mr-J=-0 -

You can plan routes offline (so to speak) on the Medion:
Tap Route Planning followed by the +with the flag then make your choice of input, say address. Once you have the address tap Add. Then the same again for the next destination. Tap the Calculator which works out the mileage. Tap Show on map. Tap the map. Tap simulation (if less than 60 miles) and it will simulate the route from the comfort of your armchair.
If that's not what you meant then ignore the above.0 -

Heres my results
TOMTOM is longer getting Lock (35-55secs)
Navigator 5 (15-30secs) both using R3 firmware (got the bug fixed)
So I agree with that
TOM TOM 5 does not always calculate the best route and even though it beats Navigator by about 10 secs its route was actually 10 minutes longer (because of outdated maps).
TomTom does not calculate a route before it gets A GPS signal (not mine anyway V5.21). It shows the destination but wont plan the route and Navigator does the same. It would pe pointless for them to plan a route before a signal as how would it know where to start?
TomTom 5 road fix can be a joke sometimes. It continualy jumps from one side of the M8 to the other when Im driving home. Its 3D view is worse and can often be up to 15-20 M behind my position.
Also how do you know its more accurate with your current speed?? Is this because the readout shows the same as your speedo?? Remember all speedometers are allowed by law to be set high, as long as they arent under so your speedo will more than likely be out by a few miles per hour.
Inbuilt POI warner is good but suffers from being only able to show certain amounts. POI-Warner for the Navigator lets you add more than TOMTOM can handle itself and you still have the built in POI from navigator.
Full Post code search is usefull but never had a problem with the 4 digit navigator one0
