While you are standing there I want you to look around you and look at the flat surfaces (end tables, coffee tables, tops of tv's/entertainment centers, bookcases, mantles, etc)
What do have on these surfaces? Are they the same decorative things that you have always had? Do you really love them? Are they cluttered up with too many things? Too many ducks, bunnies, candles, cows, precious moments etc? I am not condemning those things but asking you if they still bring you joy and do you still love seeing them in your living room? Or are you just used to them.
What about the piles of magazines and papers? Do you NEED those? You would be amazed at how much neater your living room will appear by just removing a few things.
How much easier would it be to dust these areas without all that stuff?
Your mission is to get rid of the stuff that is cluttering up your living room. Take 5 minutes to let go of some things. I am willing to bet that more of you will find you do want to get rid of some things because they do not bring you joy and you are just used to them being there.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

New Habit for November 2009 - Menu Planning
This month's new habit is menu planning. Now don't go running to the closet and hide. This is quite simple when you take just a few minutes each week to do this. You can't eat what you don't have in the house. Just the simple act of sitting down and thinking about what to fix for the next week then going to the grocery store and purchasing the food will give you more freedom than almost anything. This will save you time and money and put good food in your pantry. When you have nutritious food in your home you will feel better about what you and your family are eating. We are going to focus on how to jump start our menu planning and more! Look for lots of Food For Thought from Leanne Ely, our resident nutritionist!! Stay tuned!

Zone Missions for November 1 - 7, 2009 - Zone 1:The Front Porch/Entrance/Dining Room
Zone 1: Mission #1 Monday
Dear Friends:
We are in Zone 1 this week, that is the Front Porch, the Entrance area and the Dining Room.
Today you are to sweep your front porch area around your front door. Shake out your welcome mats and wipe down your front door. This makes a huge difference in how your home looks. We have a tendency to neglect this area and yet it is the first thing that people see when they come to your home. (weed and buy plants for hanging basket at some point this week)
Spend 15 minutes taking care of this, you will be pleased with the results!
Really enjoyed having sister to stay, but felt very lethargic today, after she left, and hit a wall about 7.00 pm, where felt totally exhausted. Went with the flow and had an early night, will catch up with things in red tomorrow.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

Dear Friends:

They are smoldering so get to it!
Still feeling very lethargic, and I need to go and do a cleaning job for a couple of hours, so I am changing things around today. This was to be the first day of the big para-legal stint and it is not happening. Trying to re-jig my thinking here again. Right given myself some time to think. The para-legal is happening. I have done 1/2 an hour so far today and I have coloured in my first square (which are now half hours):p:p:p Well done me. A 140 step journey begins with one step, and i've taken the first half hour step. Only another 139 half hour steps to go.

Hi Scroogie
I totally lost your thread or perhaps I mean I end up reading loads of others whilst searching...8 hours later - nothing done!
So I made myself only look for yours and today I have got some things attended to.
Hope you don't mind me saying but it looks like you are having a bit of a block with your studies. I have had this in the past. I totally have stage fright at the sight of a blank sheet of paper. Laptops are a bit more friendly! I eventually went to get some help and amongst other things I had to look at my motivation and reasons for wanting to study and after eventually gaining a distinction for a course I have called a halt to it because I was doing it to prove something to others and maybe myself and wasn't actually enjoying it.
The best thing I was taught was the 'taking the pressure off'. I would tell myself I would do five minutes, no more or I would flick through the book and only read the things that caught my attention. Next thing you know you've been sucked in. (A bit like Flylady and the shiny sink). The great thing about laptops\computers is that you can cut and paste and rejig your thoughts as you go along so it doesn't have to be perfect, just type anything and edit later, it's amazing what happens.
It's just that you say you have to do quality work etc and you may be putting yourself right off with that thought in your head before you even start. What d'ya think? Good luck with it all :j0 -
Thanks DeeDeeinDooDoo, I found your input really helpful, it's actually getting me down this inability to complete this course.
It was paid for two years ago, and the extended, absolute deadline is December 6th for course work. The subject matter interests me and I need this qualification to really develop my own business, which is what I would love to do.
I can then move completely away from the cleaning, mystery shopping etc, etc.
I think you are right, I am going to get rid of the word quality, and just aim for five minutes at a time and hope to get sucked in. That will be the equivalent of the Flylady kitchen sink, which really worked for me. Housework has never been easier.
Also, I thought the idea of starting at the most interesting part was great. I was thinking linear, but it doesn't have to be.
Off to try that now.
Thanks again.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
Hi all can I join up for November. Doing grocery challenge £60 and want to have 10 NSD's. Put Grocery Challenge tgt on that thread. Is there an NSD one too. If not it's on my sig so I'm committed.'The road to a friends house is never long'0
-
Of course you can. Welcome Souk08.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2042113
It's a very quiet thread, the original inhabitants left a while ago, and I've been getting away with ever longer, early morning posts, that have been extremely helpful to me.
Anyway, the very best of luck with your November challenges.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
You're a genius DeeDee, that worked really well.
I picked a section that really interested me, a couple of hours ago, intending just to do five minutes and that's me just finished now. I'm actually looking forward to having another five minute session tomorrow.
Very MSE too, think what I would have had to pay for therapy _pale_I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

I like this saying from Kung Fu Panda lol, 'yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift and that is why we call it the present'.Well, It has been a good day today, I am feeling much more positive, and enjoyed doing my coursework. I have just networked with an ex-colleague and can see some real potential for developing the company, so quite enthused about that.

Dear Friends:
Today take a look at the walls and the windows in your dining room. Grab some cleaner and a cloth and go after the finger prints and smudges that those mysterious little elves seem to leave behind as they run through your house when no one is looking! LOL
Be careful with the walls as not to rub too hard to remove paint if you have a flat finish.
