Dear Friends:
We are heading into the Entrance area of your home today. Let's grab all those shoes, books and jackets that seem to pile up right by the front door and put them away. In my house, no one ever drops their things there, they get up and walk there all by themselves! LOL! Grab these things and set your timer. I bet you can do this in less than 15 minutes."When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” - Confucius
I got some lovely clothes for DS yesterday in the 50% off, online, M&S sale, including a really nice grey wool suit and shirt. Can't believe how little I paid after taking off the 50% then 10% discount code, quidco cashback and free delivery to store.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

Zone 1: Mission #5 Friday
Dear Friends:
Today we are going to do that in the Dining Room and Entrance Way. Let's go after the ceilings, light fixtures and window sills!
Using a feather duster or dust rag get the window sills, the light fixtures, the dusties in the corners and the ceiling fan if you have one (remember to put something underneath this to catch the falling debris, one member uses an old pillow case and slips it over the blade and wipes so the dust stays in the case, I thought this was brilliant!)
This is one babystep at a time! Keep Flying!"When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” - Confucius
Well I didn't get accomplished nearly as much as I hoped for today, but such is life. Main reason was bagging a couple of great pairs of leather boots 1/2 price from Debenhams, online with 10% off code and Quidco on top, and choosing a book from Priceminister, another great offer - £5.00 back with Quidco, and £5.00 off first order, meaning a profitable transaction on a book that I wanted. Also DVD from Tesco, earning me 500 extra clubcard points. This was all with money DH had given me as a present.
I really enjoyed choosing the goodies, but meant I had to re-arrange the cleaning job. Getting stuck in horrendous traffic mucked things up as well on my way to yet another mystery shop, but just managed to get there just before closing time.
Still overall a very enjoyable day, finished off with the Dine in for two M&S offer, which we thoroughly enjoyed.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

Just got an amusing product to test for the next couple of weeks, from one of the survey companies.
Had my hubby in stitches. I sometimes think dedicated MSE'ers operate in a paralel universe.
I got sidetracked from the para-legal, looking at the permuations of buying another 9 CD's/DVD's from Tesco getting me to the maximum of 5000 points. I am targeting 8000 points for a weekend away and meal and cinema treat in the first quarter of next year. I bought a selection, intending to re-sell on ebay 7 of them. Three, I really wanted anyway and another 2 DVD's could be well used. Went ahead and did it, with the idea that worse case scenario after cash back was roughly £65.00 for the equivalent of £200.00 of deals and 3-5 CD's/DVD's that we will enjoy, depending on how many sell.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

Zone 2: Mission #1 Monday
Dear Friends:
We are in the Kitchen this week and we are going to work our way through from top to bottom!!
Your mission for today is to look UP! Now I am only 5 Ft 4 and I have a tendency to only see what is at my eye level. Today we are going to look up, set your timer for 10 minutes and take a broom or a feather duster and get those dusties and cobwebs that are hanging on the upper walls that are taller than you, the corners and the ceiling. If you are feeling adventurous ask someone in the house to help you and take a damp rag to the light fixture and/or ceiling fan. Please be careful!! Check out the top of your refrigerator as well. I am always so floored at how much dust accumulates on top of the fridge!! Don't get obsessed and take your light fixture apart or repaint the ceiling! Babysteps!!!!"When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” - Confucius
My savings this month are going to be wiped out by an unexpectedly large bill from Npower for gas and electricity, which occured due to estimated bills last cycle and their six monthly billing system, but mainly because I haven't been a Scrooge when it comes to gas and electricity usage. I'm afraid this is going to have to change too .
They have increased our direct debit by 300%, and our rate is now uncompetitive, even after they agreed to change us to their best rate.
After some deliberation we are changing to Scottish Power, through Quidco, £110.00 cash back and the best rate for our area, but we will have to pay off arrears in an immediate lump sum. On the positive side, at least we can cover that now without going to the CC. It is this sort of thing, that is the budget killer, because it is never in the budget . Must build up emergency fund !!!I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
Hi Scroogie,
Glad things are going really well with the studying. Another little trick I was taught if I was struggling with reading/bored was to just read the first sentence of every paragraph. Sort of reverse psychology. When you are told not to read those paragraphs they suddenly become more interesting! Also if the text book is well written then the opening paragraph sentence should be quite succint.
I've managed a few things here but still procrastinate a lot. I googled 'hackers plan' and spent a day reading that. Some good points made such as you just have to come to terms that you might experience hunger but have to accept that it is for short term etc.
I have (I thought) a detailed budget but there is always unexpected things turning up eg an old bill from last year due to a change over £115! Son wants to do Duke of Edinburgh £25 to be in school by Wednesday, growth spurt so new school shoes Size 10 man's so £50 ...
All in all though tightening up finances and budget has got to be a winner!
Bye for noo!0 -
Hi DeeDee,
Yep, your post was a turning point for me. I will incorporate the other tips above too. Just finished another of my 5 minute para-legal sessions and the hour flew by.
I have just picked up a nice silk top from Coast for £5.00, on grabbit board, so pleased with that. My reward.
Keep up the good work. Budget's are always a work in progress. Good to hear from you. Off to Lollypop!I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
Goals for Knockout November are as follows:- Main Focus is the Course:-
"When you create structures for the chaos in your life you free yourself. You free up your time and emotional energy for the good stuff." Dr Joan Minninger.
"Let go of the fantasy that you can escape work by procrastinating. There is no path in life that requires no effort. Prepare yourself for making a commitment to your goal by recognizing that there are costs involved in both working and trying to avoid work. The choice is not working or not working, but which type of work: even feeling guilty because of procrastinating takes some effort. When you commit to a goal, you're committing to a form of work that brings ongoing rewards. When you procrastinate, you're choosing a self-punishing form of work.
Clearly, work is required when you decide on a goal, commit to the path, and continually stretch beyond your current abilities toward the goal. But it also takes work to feel unfulfilled and to maintain a list of unachieved resolutions". The Now Factor, Neil Fiore.

Wednesday
It is Anti-Procrastination day we are diving into the refrigerator! Grab your trash can and take it over to the refrigerator and throw open the door. First toss out any leftovers that have gotten pushed to the back and have now started to turn into a science project. Second, check the fruit/vegetable drawers and toss what no longer is appealing to eat. Third, check the meat and cheese drawer, check the expiration dates on your items in there and toss what needs to go. Fourth, check out the doors of the fridge, toss the empty condiment jars and bottles that always seem to magically go back into the fridge when empty, LOL, but when full get left on the counter. Last, grab a damp rag and wipe down the shelves. Do not take every single thing out of your refrigerator and then take the shelves out to clean them. Just wipe them down. How many times have we decided to tear the fridge apart and three hours later we would rather move out than ever do it again.
Don't let yourself get sidetracked!! Have fun and enjoy your sparkling refrigerator!I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

How many times have we decided to tear the fridge apart and three hours later we would rather move out than ever do it again.
Don't let yourself get sidetracked!! Have fun and enjoy your sparkling refrigerator!
(Had to disobey here. I took the refrigerator apart and spent the three hours on it and freezer, it was a health hazzard, it's glorious now).
Thursday
It has come to the time to go after those counter tops!! Your mission for today is to scrub those counter tops. Not just the average wipe down that we do after dinner. Now it is very easy to make this task overwhelming but if you take this slow and easy you can do this! DO NOT TAKE EVERYTHING OFF OF THE COUNTERS AT ONE TIME!!!! I promise you will get sidetracked and then you will all email me crying that it is all my fault!! LOL! You just move your toaster (or coffee pot or whatever this is an example here! :>) ) over to one side and wipe down the counter, then move over a foot or so, move aside what is there and wipe down some more and so on. We are not marathon cleaning the kitchen here, just getting all the crumbs and junk that seems to build up behind and under things. Have fun! Don't obsess! Enjoy! (This was easy, previous Flylady declutterings mean there is practically nothing on the work surfaces).
Friday
Today is our last day in the Kitchen!! For today I want you to grab your broom and your mop. Sweep your kitchen floor really well and then mop. There are several ways to mop a kitchen floor and no real wrong way. Hot soapy water and wipe. There is no "perfect" mop and no "perfect" way to do it. Just Do It!
Don't obsess and get caught up in perfection! It won't matter if you don't mop the way your Mother did as long as you do it. Remember House work done incorrectly still blesses your family! (Easy, the floor gets a regular brush and mop, so only took a few minutes :A)
Just discovered flylady has a personal trainer (let's be honest here, she could do with some toning), will be checking him out in DecemberI learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0
