Goals for Knockout November are as follows:- Main Focus is the Course:- dance.gif
"When you create structures for the chaos in your life you free yourself. You free up your time and emotional energy for the good stuff." Dr Joan Minninger.

"Let go of the fantasy that you can escape work by procrastinating. There is no path in life that requires no effort. Prepare yourself for making a commitment to your goal by recognizing that there are costs involved in both working and trying to avoid work. The choice is not working or not working, but which type of work: even feeling guilty because of procrastinating takes some effort. When you commit to a goal, you're committing to a form of work that brings ongoing rewards. When you procrastinate, you're choosing a self-punishing form of work.

Clearly, work is required when you decide on a goal, commit to the path, and continually stretch beyond your current abilities toward the goal. But it also takes work to feel unfulfilled and to maintain a list of unachieved resolutions". The Now Factor, Neil Fiore.

Chill and shopping today - unschedule

Stocked up on M&S 3 for £10.00 wines, along with another 12 bottles of Cava and 6 bottles of champagne, all on offer with a further 25% off. It was a bit extravagant, but grocery spending has been really low this month, so was able to justify the spend ;). Will see us through to the new year and a spell with some friends, who enjoy a glass or three.

I have also got my paint from B&Q today, for the kitchen, and picked up two hanging baskets, full of plants, in the sale bin for £2.50 each. Used my 15% off voucher, so quite pleased with today's purchases.

Squeezed in a mystery shop too.

Plan for rest of the day:-

17.00 - 19.00 - Evening routine - get organised for tomorrow - Roast chicken for tea.
    19.30 - Cinema audit
20.30 - Type up two audits and mystery shop.

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Update - Behind schedule, but making steady progress, and enjoying the course. I need to keep the focus on it for the rest of the month, and avoid being sidetracked .

    - Book club book - Louis MacNeice - The Strings are False

Missions for Zone 3 - The Main Bathroom and another room - this week we are going to have a 5 minute room rescue mission for each of the following rooms - the Guest room, the Laundry room, the Home Office, the Kid's room & your crafting area - this gives us a chance to do a little something in these rooms before the holidays.

    Zone 2: Mission #1 Monday

    Dear Friends:

Today's mission is to look up high and get the cobwebs off the ceilings and clean the fan vent grill. I know this is a yucky mission; get a proper step ladder and your shoes. If you don't have a bathroom vent you can clean the light fixture. Get the dust and the sleeping bugs out, wash and put back. 5 Minute Rescue for the Guest Room - Set a timer and spend 5 minutes: tossing the trash and putting things away. No Guest Room? Choose another room!

    Love,
    Kelly

    Zone 2: Mission # 2 Tuesday

    Dear Friends:

Our bathrooms get grungy from dirty little hands and big hands that come into the bathroom to get washed. Today we are going to take a hot soapy rag and wash these dirty spots off the door facings, switch plates and door knobs. They have become invisible to us.

5 Minute Rescue for the Laundry Room - Set a timer and spend 5 minutes: tossing the trash and putting things away. No Laundry room? Choose another room.

Tempted to give up today. Battery on the car was flat, so I had to run the four miles to the school, lollypop in hand, to get to work on time. My brain is really struggling to cope with all this course information, and sticking my feet up and letting life pass me by, felt extremely tempting.

Just going to keep plodding on though, that's all there is to it, baby steps, one foot in front of the other ......
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
  • Hi Scrooge (such a harsh name for someone who is just working hard and trying to save the pennies!)

Thank you for the procrastination bit at the top. It is a big problem for me and good to be reminded that actually avoiding stuff is as much effort as just getting on with it.

I think your studies are important now and will hopefully increase your income in the near future so worth sacrificing some money making now.

We have just had a bill for £311 OH's NI contributions arrears. So quite horrified at the hole that was going to leave this month out of the money I've worked hard to acquire/hoard. After sleeping on it I have phoned to ask about a waiver for one year's worth due to low earnings and so they will ammend bill and hopefully maybe by the time they do that and give 28 days to pay I'll be able to pay it in New Year whilst making sure they are paid promptly and accounted for.

Think I will list a little challenge sheet for me tomorrow, see how early I can get up

    Hi DeeDee,

Well done on thinking, outside the box, with the NI contributions. There is usually a way around these things without resorting to debt
    :T.

I'm plodding on with the course today. I haven't studied for many years, and it just seems to take alot longer to get the ideas to stick, than it used to :o. After the coursework is finished there is an exam in February to look forward to aswell.

You did really well passing your course with distinction. I would be seriously happy with completion. All the best with your lists :p.

    Zone 2: Mission #3 Wednesday

    Dear Friends:

Today we are going to look at the front of our bathroom vanity. Most smudges and toothpaste spots will come off with a damp soapy rag. Don't use harsh chemicals on wood or painted surfaces. Do one drawer front or one door at a time. Wipe off the knobs and handles too. A little wiping every day will eventually take the layers of dirt and grime away.

5 Minute Rescue for the Home Office area - Set a timer and spend 5 minutes: tossing the trash and putting things away. No Home office area? Choose another room!

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
  • Right! Have been up for an hour, had cup of tea, had cup of coffee, feel grotty and grumpy, have cold sores from too much coffee not enough greens. Frizzy two toned hair, overweight. Want to get back to being slim, funny with well conditioned hair and have a purpose outside of the home.

By the end of this year - six weeks away - I want to be 10lbs lighter.
    Not to have raided savings.
Have taken steps to get a job or volunteering position.
    Have improved French.
Devised a plan for the next four years.

    Every day I need to:
    Check in to MSE
Excercise in fresh air 30 minutes ie walking, mealplan
Plan meals, refine budget, increase family income
    Dig out CV and update
Listen to French tape/video for half hour as a family
Think seriously about where I want to be in four years as I will be turning 50 (ohmygoshthatcan'tbetrue)

That's a start. Will report back daily. Geronimooooooo!
  • Hi Scrooge,

You are doing brilliantly with the studying. Other things I tried were; talking out loud, engages other bits of the brain, flashcards just to repeat any facts and figures. They can act like 'coat hooks' for information. Post it notes all over my bedroom wall.

I was surprised to get a distinction because at the end of the day I just regurgitated loads and I thought that you really had to be original to get a distinction. A lot of it was parrot fashion and strategically choosing a few subjects to concentrate on. So now some has stuck but a lot has gone in to the great mist.

When I told my DS that I got a distinction he asked 'is that good?' I said yeah it's the best mark you can get. He said 'oh, it's just that it's got the word stink in it!

I think the biggest help is discussing the subject with another student. Difficult if you are doing a distance learning course. Gets the brain really working. Is that possible?

Better get on with my list!

Your two posts, had me laughing out loud :rotfl:. You strike me as a lady who'll be able to do anything you put your mind to. I'll look forward to your daily posts.

Thanks for the tips for remembering information for this course.

    I'm young too, just 43 ..... :p
