Not long now till moving day

I can't believe how many trips to the tip we had to make over that last few months and that was only getting the houses ready to sell

Filled a few charity bags as well, but I bet when it comes to moving house there will be a vast amount of stuff that I will wonder why I didn't get rid of it earlier :)

Well its only 4 days until the big move - we were off work today and DD was at nursery so most of the packing is now done and only a small bit to do on tuesday as well as emptying the loft - not looking forward to this.

We visited the house on saturday and managed to find out the measurements of the windows etc and the curtains I bought should fit.

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly on wednesday the moving day as there was another hiccup yesterday but hopefully this is sorted out now. Very stressful at the moment.

One of our ISA made interest of roughly £80 so fairly happy with this. All the other ISA have been marked up with interest in April. We managed to make £40 from ebay and got £45 from topcashback - all will help with the expense of moving next week.

Being eating not too healthy this week as trying to empty as much as we can from the freezer and a few items can be taken to my mum's chest freezer.

Cannot wait until after the move so that I can start to overpay (not paid any overpayments for April and May) and hope that I can catch up and make a decent dent in the mortgage before our fixed deal in 2yrs.

Hope all goes smoothly. One of the most stressful things ever isn't it, but sounds like you have made a great start to it with most packing done. Good luck.

Well we moved on wednesday with several hiccups along the way. The house furniture was packed up in the removal van waiting to be transported when we encountered 2 problems there was a power cut in the RBS so they had to do the payment a different method and also the seller of the property we now own did the relevant search but had not passed to our solicitors. Anyway removal van went away for a while and we phoned them at 2.30 when we were advised that keys could be collected for our new house so we got to house at approx 3pm. We had a lot of hands on deck and managed to sort out daughters room, our bed and temporary hanging rail and unpack most of the kitchen.

Over the next 4 days we have had friends over helping out with DIY stuff as husband not too good with this and have re-arranged the kitchen to how we like. Internet, tv and phone was connected yesterday so it is good to have the tv back - no inside ariel but we were busy unpacking so did not bother us.

One bad thing is that we had scottish hydro out to check out the CH and they have advised that it needs to be flushed out which will be roughly £600-£700 (not sure if we can claim for this but will try).

We have the house looking good but there are still plenty of small jobs to be done. Daughters room is being done first followed by our bedroom to our colours. The only room which is messy is our bedroom as no storage but it only temporary.

Thursday and Friday I certainly had a huge spending spree buying several things needed.

Glad it went well, and yay to friends helping out
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Downstairs is looking good and glad that we now have carpet in the lounge area - just need to readjust the door and get this back on the hinges.

Upstairs daughter's new room is lovely with her pink walls, new carpet, new curtains and lovely lights - awaiting to go to collect her new single bed and she will move in at the weekend when bed erected and furniture moved in.

then we can start on our bedroom decoration. We are going to visit a company who does built in wardrobes and hopefully we can get this moving also.

Electrician has been busy all over the house and returns tomorrow to finish this. Next major job is finding out when the contractor will do up the back garden. Hopefully July when gas contractor are finishing digging up our street.

Today we had a great start as hubbie found hundreds of ants crawling about the house - rentokil phoned and came pretty quick to spray the house. Nice weather but hate how this attracts all these insects.

Made my 1st overpayment of £95 to the increased mortgage to the higher mortgage rate and will monitor this. Once I know this is ok then I can pay another larger amount next week as I have money put by for this.

Sounds a bit of an expensive and stressful time. Glad to hear you are almost there with settling in. I am quite glad my hubby is quite handy. The bill for flushing the system seems big. We've never had it done, but my DH did take off each radiator, drain it and rinse it out outside and the gunk that comes out is horrendous. We are about to have it done though when we have our boiler replaced later in the month, so can't comment on price for the procedure but i am glad we are not paying separately.

I bet you get on track really quickly with overpaying.

Hi Lynn :) Glad to hear you're all settled in now. Your daughters room sounds lovely

Just to let you know that we had a problem with ants with our house and it turned out that there was this tiny tiny hole in one of the brick's mortar where they were getting in, we blocked it up and now the ants stay outside.

What needs to be doen with your back garden?
