Well done on the jogging!!:j Fantastic. Each year I think I am going to start jogging - go a couple of times get totally puffed out and never do it again.
My eldest son used to represent his school at middle distance cross country so I am hoping he will take me out this week. This year! This year!

one of the assistants was a runner (making it sound like I am too which is SO not true lol) and said she had these and they were the comfiest trainers she had ever had.
Then a guy assistant came along and said they get asked for these by name, and that's the only ones that do.

Hi sorry to but in, but I just wanted to share my own experience and point out that it's really worth going to a specialist running shop where they can check your feet and find out what shoes are right for you. Not everyone's feet are the same - I never knew this until two months into my jogging wondering why I had sore shins, ankles and arches. Went to a running shop - NOT a normal sports shop - and they checked my feet by doing a gait analysis. Apparently I "overpronate" (feet roll inwards) and have slightly dropped arches. Being recommeded a certain shoe by someone who gushes "it's the most fantastic shoe ever" is irrelevant unless they have the same type of foot as you. It happened to me - my neighbour has super high arches and she was gushing about her super comfy shoes and even got me to try them on. I am SO GLAD I didn't listen to her and went to the running shop instead where they know their stuff because if their feet roll in and yours roll out, (or their arches are high and yours are low) their shoe may actually do you more HARM because each shoe is designed to correct a specific type of problem. Find out what type of foot you have: neutral, overpronated, or supinated (it was all gobbledegook to me at first, but it makes so much sense now) and then find a shoe designed for that category. Otherwise, you could seriously injure yourself and be laid off for months (say you have feet that roll out, and are unwittingly running in a shoe that is forcing them even more outwards, instead of coaxing them in to correct the problem. That could cause you some serious injury).

Once you know what shoes you need you can buy them for about £40 on Amazon or ebay. I paid £80 for my first pair in the shop, but now I know the ones I need I got my last pair for £11.99 on ebay auction.

Just had a couple of thoughts,
Those of you looking for bikes - have you tried your local freecycle. Just try a web search 'freecycle' I am sure you will find your local one. You gets loads of emails with stuff people or giving away ( also what people want - some a bit cheeky) but there are bikes, both exercise and moutain on a regular basis.

Also some have mentined that their GP's aren't much help when asking for motivation with weight loss. Most Gp's now give 'pescriptions for heath' which allow you free access to swimming, gyms or other local fitness providers. It is worth asking about. I got free aqua aerobics when I was recovering from major surgery. But as now that walking is now recommended for people with depression and encouraged, ask what your GP can do for you!!

That is so true, my OH went to the just normal trainer store on sat and he asked about them (he had googled a little to find out some info)the assistant had no idea what was best for his feet, which ones he should choose and never bothered to test his feet like chop says it can cause all sorts of injuries and unnecessary pain, it is best to go to the specialist, pay a bit more, have the right foot wear an not only will be better for the feet but it improves the exercise:D
