My motivation - I've always been PLUMP, and had the comments, oh you've got such a pretty face....so what, the rest of me is grosteque? I chuffin' hate when people say that!
I'm only 21, and have a 2yo (I'm not a chav, I swear!) I used to be about a size 14 before I had Keira, but during pregnancy I piled on mega lbs, then I got PND, and eventually I just stopped caring, last year I finally got to my biggest - 16st 11lbs - I'm only 5ft 4" so I didn't leave the house as I thought people would laugh at me.

Push came when my daughter wanted to go to the park, and it took me 3hours to work up the courage to go, I realised I couldn't go on like that, I wanted to be a mum that *could* run around. So she would only really get out and about when her dad got home from work.

So now I'm 3 1/2 stone lighter, I realise the 2 1/2 stone remaining will take a bit longer to come off but I'm fine with that!
So anyways, my motivation is my daughter!
I intend to take her swimming soon, which is a BIG thing for me but I know she will love it!

Btw, whats a clothes size VS weight. Like if you lost half a stone, does that mean a dress size?

Afternoon everyone, ( I was going to put Losers but thought it might be taken the wrong way!)
Thanks to those who commented on my weight loss. \i am looking forward to seeing my name on the chart.

My motivation came, when on Boxing Day, we decided to have a walk up one of the 3 peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, and I was huffing and puffing and generally holding everyone up. And I am a member of the ramblers.
I gave myself a good talking to hopefully with a combination of better eating and more normal exercise - walking etc I can get my BMI back down and hopefully back in size 14 clothes.

    Hiya everyone

I think I had a particularly low day yesterday but I am so pleased to have found this thread! :j

Thank-you, nmm and sarymclary for your warm welcome, much appreciated and look forward to reading through the whole thread to pick up some good tips. More than anything I need motivation and that's something that is built on brittle ground at the moment but I think I'll find bucketloads of it on here! Retiredlady, you are so right and I am hoping your enthusiasm will spur me on!! :A

The doc said to me that I needed to motivate myself when I asked whether she had any advice. I felt quite humiliated. It's bad enough having to ask for help, when you know all the facts and talk the talk but can't get yourself to walk the walk, I know what you mean, katiepoppycat!

I did WW a while back which worked for a few months but I just got so tired of counting points all the time! Still cook some of the recipes 'though as they are very tasty.

Then I did the Food Doctor eating regime, which to a point I still do because the recipes are so yummy and filling. Unfortunately, I still end up having that extra glass of wine (sometimes a bottle :o ) and a packet of rice crackers or Bombay mix when I sit down in front of the telly on my own. So I try and keep moving all the time! That does help but doesn't make for any relaxation!!!

I had a lousy night's sleep with a sore neck which makes the exercise part of the new me a bit of a challenge! Am off to see an osteopath today, hoping to sort this pain in the neck :D out. Running does it for me. Did a 10km Run in July last year which was a great achievement for me - 1hr 06 mins! I was very proud. Just got a bit lonely going round as I was doing the run on my own. If I do it again I would definitely go with someone else 'cos it gets quite emotional! Still, I have to thank the guy in the Reece T-Shirt who shouted out my name every time he saw me, made me carry on to the end!!!!

I cook vast quantities of soup that I freeze in portions, so I can take them to work. Have totally weaned myself off canteen or shop-bought sandwiches and save about £20 a wk! :money: I have this brilliant Lok 'n' lok container with separate internal compartments, so you can take chopped veg and a dip (hummus etc) in one container.

I start the day off with a hot water with lemon juice and grated ginger, a pint of water and porridge or home-made muesli (Food doctor recipe - bit of a faff but it means I'm guaranteed no added sugar and it lasts quite a long time.) with a banana or blueberries or other fruit, depending what is on offer at the supermarket. I need to sit down and do my sums but I reckon it doesn't cost more than No Sugar Alpen, especially as value oats cost about 50p at Asda!!!

At work I sit (like most others) and I have to avoid the constant supply of chocolates that someone brings in. If I've made some pear and ginger or lemon and raspberry muffins at the weekend (cooking is occupational therapy for me!!!) I take them into work, so I don't eat them all myself! My freezer is my best friend, most of my meals are made with freezing portions in mind. :rotfl:

I've just realised I've rambled on again, so sorry, but here's a recipe for something REALLY healthy and absolutely scrumptious that might work for someone, I really enjoyed my first portion last night, will have the other tonight:

    Makes 3 portions (but can't freeze ;) )

    500ml veg (or light) stock
    150g red or brown rice
    1 stick of cinnamon
    1 peeled clove of garlic

Put above in a pot and simmer for 35 mins (or until liquid has gone). Remove cinnamon stick and mash garlic clove into rice

Add 150g of cooked beetroot, sliced or cubed, whatever you fancy (I'll leave the cooking to you, I just used precooked beetroot from a jar!). Set aside

1/2 tsp of caraway seeds - toast in a pan

    1 tbspn olive oil
150 g kale or fresh spinach
gently fry kale/ spinach in olive oil, put aside

    1 medium onion - chopped
1 fennel bulb (I didn't have any fennel, so used fennel seeds and chopped half a red pepper, I reckon you could add zucchini or any other veg you fancy)
    1 tbspn olive oil
Fry onion and fennel (pepper) until golden brown, add the kale and
2 tspn of tamarind paste (if you haven't got any use soya sauce or worcester at a push) and the caraway seeds. Toss for a couple of minutes.

Add to rice, put whole mixture in an oven dish and sprinkle feta cheese on top (they say 150g but I think that's quite a lot, do to taste), bake for 10mins at 190C. Serve with a green salad. Total prep time: 45 mins, granted it's long but serves dinner and lunch following day!

Must get back to reading the thread!

Thanks Debaz - I would like to get a bike too but don't think I would be able to find one that would carry my weight! Eventually though I will get one because it would be good exercise and not weight bearing on my knees so I should be able to do it. Think they are pretty expensive though and am living on a pretty tight budget :o

    Marion,
I would think a bike would be perfectly able to take your weight. I know that using a cycle is ideal as a low-impact exercise suitable for anyone who is overweight. Even walking for longer periods can impact upon our joints. They start at very low prices, and I found brand new ones here for under £50! http://www.sterlinghouse.co.uk/ I have a friend who bought 2 bikes (one for her, one for her hubby for £99 from them)! There is always 'freecycle' - sorry about the bad pun! There's no reason why one wouldn't eventually come up on there, although you'd need to consider having it collected from the person giving it away (unless they were really kind).

I chose my bike because it had an extra big comfy seat too! As I'm a bit heavier, the only thing I make sure of is that I have the tyres pumped up properly.

HTH, and it is maybe something to consider for the future when you feel ready.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

    Sorry, quick one for retiredlady.

Have you tried your local police station with regards to buying a bike? They do these auctions, I think it's called Bumblebee, where they auction off bikes that were found but never claimed. You can get one quite cheaply. Here's the link:

Im pooed off. It seems everything i write for this stupid thing is complete and utter pants!

I knew i shouldnt have left the lit review and methodology till last, i hate researching, but thank the lord for Google books!!

How is everyone doing? I must say on the weight side of things my grey coat i bought last year has some room in it now. I think the change of diet to what i eat, having less salt and eating fruit cos its my hard earned dosh thats bought it has made differences without even trying - which is my kinda weight loss.

I seem to miss the usual faces, so hello you guys!!
