errr, why have we not contacted watchdog about this? I'm an affiliate so i'd lose out if they got negative press, but I don't think a businss should operate like this.
I got an email about the phone being out of stock last week, but mysteriously it was dispatched yesterday.
I spoke to the girl this morning to query why I was charged an extra £15, she told me that an email had been sent round last week stating the price error and that I must not have received it, then forwarded me some insulting sham of a lie that was blatantly NEVER sent out!0 -
Well, mine never turned up at all, after 20 minutes on the phone to CPW (18 of which I was on hold) it turns out that you can only order 2 x PAYG phones within 3 months.
According to the guy I spooke to on the phone, having ordered a couple of Nokia 7600's a while back this meant I was ineligable for this offer.
I suspect this bloke is talking nonsense. Has anyone thats previously ordered PAYG phones from CPW received their e616v's???0 -
Received mine to day, with a E616v sleeve but both the phone and box say E616. However, I've got a 16MB duo memory stick, which is unexpectable (is there anyone got the memory???).
They charged me £44.99 for the phone and the item I don't want to pay for (the 3Sim).
I called CPW to complain about the wrong phone sent and the overpriced charge, and the girl named Laura told me CPW will send a refund cheque to me and they don't have stock at the moment, thus if I'm unhappy with the wrong phone I can bring the package to CPW stores and i'll be refunded the full price (£44.99). However, some of you said that you can not have the sim refunded at stores. Any one gets the full refund from store or we need torequest a jiffy return bag?
What should I do now? £29.99 is a good deal but is it worth the battery problem of the phone? Give me an advice as I'm a newbie.
ThanksTitch0 -
I got the e616 too >:(
Not a happy bunny, besides being 'conned' out of the additional £15 they have the cheek to send you a lower specification phone!
Check them out here for the e616 http://www.nec.co.uk/e616_3G_Device.aspx and here for the e616v http://www.nec.co.uk/e616V_3G_Device.aspx
It seems the major difference is the quality of the on board cameraThe NEC e616V boasts the same exciting range of cutting edge features as it’s predecessor, the e616, but has the addition of a VGA-resolution digital camerae616 - Two integrated cameras • CIF – 100ke616V - Two integrated cameras • VGA (300K), CIF (100K)
>:(
Also the e616 comes with two batteries: 780mAh Li-Ion, 1360mAh Li-Ion
Whereas the e616V batteries have a much higher capacity (and thus extended call/standby time): 1100mAh Li-Ion, 1800mAh Li-Ion

OK I also ordered one of these phones paid using my switch card thinking it was going to be £30 only to receive my invoice with my phone for £44.99. This cant be right I authorised CPW to take £29.99 from my card do I have any chance of getting a refund on the additional £15? This seems very very poor to me, are they within thieir rights to up the price of the package once you get a fulfilment of youre order via email for 29.99 how can thet turn round and send me a poorer class phone e616 and debit my card with more than I aggreed to pay any help appreciated ???0

here is the report I submitted to watchdog (http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/contact/mobilephones.shtml). i forgot to mention that they are sending out older versions of hte phone (e616, not e616v) which have battery problems, so you might want to modify it slightly :
Carphone Warehouse advertised a deal on their website for the NEC E616V pay as you go phone for 29.99, which I ordered last Saturday (4th Dec). They then sent me an out of stock email a few days later, stating that if any stock was found within seven days, my order would be processed. Yesterday, I was informed that my order had been sent, but they have taken the liberty of adding a 15 pound top up card and charging for it, despite this not being mentioned ANYWHERE in my original email or on their site!! I called them this morning, and staff there told me that there had been a pricing error, and that emails were sent out last week detailing this. She proceeded to send this email while I was on the phone to her, and it looks like it's something they whipped up over the weekend to cover their mistake. To verify this, i checked various online message boards and other customers who partook mention the same thing happening to them. There are varied reports of what CPW have offered in return, some people are saying that they are being sent a cheque, some people were only charged 29.99, some people have been credited the 15 pounds to their card, and some people report that CPW are charging them the 15 pounds extra and REFUSING to refund it!0 -
Just to clear up the e616/e616v problem that people are talking about...
note: i have actually mentioned earlier in this thread!
"3" have supposedly run out of e616v's now and so are repackaging the e616's they still have as e616v's
they informed me that the software has been updated to that of the e616v and the battery replaced. They also assured me that the phone is an equilavent of the e616v now
if you buy any new stock of this phone it will be a repackaged e616
hope this clears it up
EDIT: i do still think it's an absolute disgrace that they are allowed to do this without informing the customer...and also how CPW have behaved0 -
I received my package today from CPW, and can confirm that the two batteries supplied are 1100mAh and 1800mAh of the E616v, but the handset appears to be an E616. I also got the 16mb MS duo card.
So I suppose the question becomes can the second camera in the phone be upgraded via software only to VGA? Sounds unlikely.... ??? VGA isn't brilliant, but a whole lot better than CIF resolution.0 -
However, I've got a 16MB duo memory stick, which is unexpectable (is there anyone got the memory???).
As far as i am concerned, some e616v do come with a 16MB duo memory stick, it depends on luck.
So you are very lucky ;D0 -

I think you will find they have to refund you as they have not complied with the Sale of Goods Act or the Trade Description Act in the first instance....yes it may be equivelant...etc...BUT this was not made clear in the offer for sale.
The other issue surrounds the £15 added on for airtime....if this wasnt clear in the offer, then they cant charge you for it...if they do you should get a refund...if they refuse and you paid by credit card, speak to your credit card company and dispute the charge...they may even be able to perform a charge back, although as this is under £100.00 this may be difficult.Stevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60
