  • Ah, the 'Yorkshire Pot'.

Had one a few years ago form a butchers. Was interesting, not really that amazing though. I think the lack of bones limits the flavour, seems like more of a novelty item tbh. Best off spending the money on a good single bird imo.
  • I really fancy trying a 3 bird roast (chicken, duck and turkey)for christmas but as there is only 3 of us for dinner (2 adults, 1 child) it is just way too much. I have seen the ones in aldi but the last one of the stuffed joints from Aldi I had it was horrible.

I have been thinking if I could do something simiar but just using breast meat rather than deboning birds. So buy turkey breast, duck breast and chicken breast and make some stuffings and roll it up like a roulade in foil and bake it in the oven. Do you think this will work? Can you just buy turkey breasts without buying the rest of the turkey?
  • That would probably work ;) As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing multi-bird roast thread to see if you get more inspiration :D

Wow facinating - thanks for all the tips. I have made up my mind to go to M&S tomorrow and order one of their 3 bird roasts. marksandspencer.co.uk where you can view their Christmas birds. They have a lovely selection of 3 bird roasts, and three meat roast too. 3 bird roasts for 5-7 people for £35 - not too bad when you consider all the work involved with boning, stuffing etc. Orders must be in my 3pm on Tuesday.

*wonders if her long suffering butcher can be convinced to do a bird in a bird in a bird for her this year... and if it's going to be worth the pi55 take from him when you mention a bird in a bird ;) Would do one from scratch but probably not a good idea in the worlds smallest kitchen...*

I did a multi birds roast last year with a duck, turkey, pheasant & partridges but only the duck was a whole birds, others were all breast fillets because the legs of birds can be difficult when it comes to stuff them together. using breasts saved a lot of times.

I first de-boned the duck myself without cutting the duck open (took 1.5 hours). Then I brined all the birds with salt water (salt/water at 1/16 ratio) for 24 hours. Then layered all different breasts, sausage meats and stuffings onto a baking paper, rolled them up, placed them carefully inside the duck, and then pulled the baking paper out.

I had to feed 10 people last year, it was very successful and for the very first time we didn't have any meat left for next day. I plan to do it again this year replacing the duck with goose.
