I wonder if I can create any space for one:)

I do have plenty of alternatives in the freezer(various types of fish)pork, chicken, lamb and turkey. And in the fridge a small ham and a pork, turkey and bacon lattace. Can you put a cooked ham in a freezer? It has no information on the ham either way.

All my vegetables and a variety of desserts, pies, puddings and cakes.

So apart from being on my own I will be ok I guess.

You ain't never alone on here... I bet some of us are chattering away on here Christmas day too.

Get some nice goodies out for yourself, and remember those that are with you in spirit. It is a time for celebration and thanks for what we do have, however little or much that may be.

I'm sure that you are right Bluebag. There is much in the "Count Your Blessings" idea. I hope to go to a carol service on Monday(I think)and though late the midnight service too...haven't done that in a long time. Then possibly sleep reasonably well.

Listen to some radio, watch some tv on here, haven't used much of my allowed internet time so can use it during the daytime rather than overnight(unless I make use of my Freesat box and tv licence but it is warmer in the bedroom)then have something nice for a meal, I'll try and bother. Bit surprised that I have not been playing as much Christmas music as I planned this year. Considering that I have so much on the computer.

And yes, no doubt we'll pop in and wish our friends all the best over the festive season.

Here's a funny one back on topic, I purchased a frozen ready meal(Bangers and mash)from Aldi's no room in the freezer. Put it in the fridge. 24 hours later expected it might be thawed out, still frozen so when cooked in the microwave it was ok. So I will use that as guide in future.

    BLUEBAG,
I've had the three bird roast several times and haven't been disapointed once. Yes the cooked ham will be fine in the freezer, you might want to portion it up saving having to eat it all after it has been defrosted.

Oooh, I'll definately get one then, just fancied a bit of a change from plain turkey.
    Thank you.

    betheebee,
Thanks for the info on the ham. I was thinking there I am buying sliced or tinned ham and all this time I could have been buying a joint. I could have probably bought an uncooked one but having to cook it, you pay for using the oven.

If I can clear some of the freezer over Christmas I will make room for some items that may only be available at this time of year and at decent prices.

I think I have enough really for one person. Too much really:)but nicer to be in such a position than not having enough which could sadly happen to any of us at any time.

    Hi BLUEBAG and POPPERWELL,
Just a thought, if you have cooked turkey, lamb, pork, beef ect. I always slice them and freeze 2 slices of each meat in a bag so my DH and I can have an assorted plate of meats which I serve with bubble and squeak (also can be frozen) and pickles.
POPPERWELL, If you work out how much per gram/ounce of ready cooked meat you pay and then work out how much electric you use it always works out cheaper cooking your own.
Hope you both have a lovely Christmas.

    betheebee,
Thank you...may I return your good wishes. I do appreciate all the advice I am given. Never too old to learn...:)

If I don't get around to having the three bird roast, I do have quite a lot to go at and the same vegetable wise.

May get some extra bread/bread buns in and perhaps some cabbage and salad stuff. And that is me done! Pity we all live so far away, I'd love to share my culinary skills with my friends on here. I like my own company and yet it feels wrong cooking for one...but there are so many of us.

I was offered a Christmas meal with my one living Auntie and Uncle but they live so far away and with the buses not running the taxi would cost more than £50 return so it is out of the question.

  • I am sure they are very nice but I really do not get why we shove a bird into a bird into a bird and sometimes into another bird! Do we really need it?!

I can't really talk as we are having goose, turkey and a ham but all separate! makes for better leftovers ;)

Don't be daft, there's nothing wrong in cooking for one you've got to eat. At least your not living off pot noodles and other carp !
Distance isn't a problem when people are able to keep in touch via MSE, eh? You can share your skills on here. :)

As you're having 2 birds and an animal that makes 3 meats,:rotfl:
I suppose we are just saving on carving, all done in one fell slice ;)
Like your name Duckegg, wonder what came first. :)
