My OH and my brother did a 7 bird roast a few years ago for christmas - it took 8 man hours to prepare it with the boning of the birds and making the stuffing - there were 11 of us for xmas and we were still eating it 9 months later!!!
See You Tube for "multi-bird roast" (sub title: probably not the one you were looking for...) for the piccies - it was good fun and well worth it although it did cost nearly £200 but we did go a bit overboard with the number of birds!!

I don't think I am a) brave enough b) rich enough!
I have said I 'might' get him the Aldi one in addition to the fresh meats I buy from the farm shop this year, they were all sold out last year. One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
My partner & I tried the Aldi one last week & it was very good.
It says to baste during cooking but there was no liquid coming out as it was solid meat so when I cook my one on New Year's Day when he is staying with me I think that I shall top it with butter before I cook it.
The stuffing in it was delicious.0 -
We tried the Aldi one last year, it was disgusting, took it back for a refund, won't get one this year!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

I bought a very expensive one for extra special celebration a couple of years ago (can't remember what the birds were but there were 3 of them) it cost too much, and was not really a success as there was also stuffing inside to fill in the gaps IYSWIM and when carved, some people got just the outside bird and stuffing, some got a bit of two birds, and a very lucky one or two actually got a bit of all three birds. It seemed like a real pain to carve (we had thought it would be easy, just like slicing a loaf, but it wasn't) and I have to say I wouldn't buy that one again (even if I could afford it, which I can't) If you have the time to do your own I'm sure that would be a better way but in my experience you have to make sure that it doesn't turn out like a big bag of the biggest bird with the other two birds all bunched up inside so that not everyone got a bit of each bird.
I hope it goes well - I'm sure it would be possible to do a really good job oneself if given enough time and patience ! :beer:0 -
I've watched the guardian links and think I might give it a go

My OH did a 4 bird roast for us a couple of years ago. He's got a butcher friend who'd talked him through it weeks before, so on Christmas eve I banished him to the patio with the camping table and left him to get on with it (didn't want the mess in the kitchen - he had to pluck them all as well as de-bone etc!). We had a woodcock inside a partridge, inside a pheasant, inside a smallish turkey. It was really lovely (except for the woodcock - wouldn't recommend that at all, it was far too strong and 'meaty' for my taste), and made that years christmas dinner extra special and totally worth the effort.
My advice is to give it a go, have fun and enjoy!Total Debt January 2014 £10,725.44
