I'm a newbie here - going to my first meeting on tuesday and I'm scared!! I need to lose a LOT of weight and I'm just nervous about walking in to see a bunch of strangers and finding out how much I weigh (I have no idea).
eek!
P
Can I tell you how it is from a Consultant's point of view?
Every person who comes through the door has a problem they need some help with - I know exactly how they feel because I (and all other Consultants) started out with SW in the same way. We had a problem and needed help.
Once in group, you are among friends - or people who are very willing to be your friend if you appear approachable (I mention this because some shy people give off 'don't talk to me' vibes). Look round and smile, I bet a pound to a penny someone will chat to you straight away. Don't sit hanging your head, you have nothing to be ashamed of, don't forget, you simply have a problem you need some help with.
Class will start promptly, you will be weighed and will pay your fees. You'll receive all the necessary books and instructions on how the plans work. I can almost guarantee that you won't be the heaviest person there and even if you are, so what? We're all there to lose weight and lose it you will!
Your weight will NEVER be bandied about in group (or out of it) and only the loss will be mentioned in Image Therapy (the 'talk' part of the class). If you have concerns about the plan or some good ideas to share, IT is the time to do this so that you both give and receive support from all the group, not just the Consultant.
If you join in the next week or so you won't be the only newbie - there will most likely be half a dozen or more of you. The only problem here, is that the Consultant may not be able to spend as much time with you as she would like, but hopefully, this will be rectified over the next week or so. You can ring, text or email her at any time if you come unstuck, are worried or simply need someone to witter at
I sincerely hope that in six months time, you will count Tuesday as the start of your new life.
PennyLane - thank youI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
PS: Phantom, I have one member who refuses to be told what she weighs. She has been coming for a while and just said at the beginning "tell me each time I get an award (each half-stone) but don't tell me what I weigh"!
It works for her :rotfl: :rotfl:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
hi,
I've been lurking around reading your threads for a while now, so I'd love it if I can join your thread properly - I've been too scared to post until now
I started slimming world just before Christmas, and lost 7lbs, although the rate at which I have been eating (not syning) over Christmas, I'm sure I will have put it back on!
Thank you for the recipe compilation and especially to whoever posted the cous cous cake - it's in the oven now!
I can't wait to buy a bikini in the summer
xhIf you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
Hello to all the new people that have arrived at the thread whilst I was playing WoW! I am very tired (and about to go to bed) so haven't the energy to go back and write names out in full. Sorry for not doing personal greetings!
Welcome to you all anyway lolI saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0 -
butler_helen welcome, I to am a newbie and am due to start my first class next week as I'm on lates this week.
I have done SW before but its been a while! I've been on this board now for about a week asking loads of questions and I have to say that everyone has been really great and answered all the questions (which they have prob been asked 110 times before!)
Its given me the boost that I needed until I can get to the class and the reassurance that if I do have a 'bad' day there is prob someone who's been there before who can help pick me back up n give me the kick I need ( in the nicest possible way!!)
Consultant31, its been about 4 years since I was last at SW, do they still offer extra syns for people on shift work??
Thanks x x:j Norn Iron Club Member No. 343 :j0 -

Well today has been my last day off plan and I am so looking forward to getting back on track tomorrow.:j
I have enjoyed xmas and its been nice to eat what I want although I am a tad frustrated as I had intended on sticking to the plan over xmas and this didnt happen mainly because I had so many family and friend committmenets which I hadnt anticpated (more than last year) and either involved meals out or involved others preparing my food. Im having a sort out of the treats I have left tomorrow and will be giving them away !!!
Ive been to Morrisons this afternoon and can report that MULLERLIGHTS ARE 8 FOR £2. (i did not see when the offer finished) They had the new mullerlight vanilla yogurt sprinkled with chocolate (I do not know whether this is free) One of the other posters mentioned about these new yogurts and the vanilla one was the only one I spotted. I havent bought any as Im well stocked up with the greek 0% yogurts and also the shape lasting satisfaction.
There were no Morrisons Eat Smart Pork Sausages to be had  :mad::mad::mad::mad:but I did pick up a pack of eat smart licolnshire which are I think 1/2 a syn each.
tomorrow's plan will probably be a red or mix to match day (depending on what I have for lunch) and will include bacon, eggs and mushrooms for breakfast, unknown for lunch but may be sausages? if I stick to Red, or jacket potatoes if I have a mix to match day, and its roast dinner at the mother in laws for tea. A pudding may be involved so I will limit my syns throughout the day just in case.
I bought a lovely fresh pineapple in morrisons - recipe ideas anyone? also some lovely salad stuff
I have tons of oranges / clementines left plus all the veg etc i bought for xmas so am well stocked up and am relishing giving the plan 110%.0 -
Wecome welshspencer:D Well done for packing up smoking. If you can do that, this will be a walk in the park!;) I gained loads of weight when I quit but I've got it off now and some more. :j I'm wondering whether you could go swimming with your back probs. It's very good exercise and it will keep you supple. Likewise gentle walking would help I'm sure. You don't have to do gym workouts to stay fit. Are you seeing a physio? If not, go and see your GP and ask to be referred to one because they may even arrange for hydrotherapy or something. I should think your GP will see you as a star patient (with giving up smoking) and will be only too pleased to point you in the right direction. Stick around though because the SW plan is FAB!!
Thanks for all the welcomes...
yes have started with physio and have a appointment every week. so looking forward to there help, will book myself in for some swimmingas this sound a great idea, and will ask about hydrotherapy .
was up all night with the back, and need not rise until this afternoon so my first meal was at a friends house which I had arranged before starting the plan which I was not looking forward to as it was Chinese take away. but looking at my book. was amazed to see that I could indulge.
I had Beef Chow Mein with boiled rice which my book tells me on green day is 8.5 syns
tonight still feeling hungry i found out about and made the SW free Chips cut thick boiled for 5 min then drained and left for a few minutes returned to pan to crisp a little then in the oven for 25 min with two running eggs. which filled me up followed by a orange.
in my book it says i can have 250 semi milk but have seen posts that say 350ml?
I also make my own bread so how do i count that???. and do like to make banana and cinnamon bread but Also do not know how to count this?
looking at some of the recipes am very surprised at what I can make and eat so have invited the neighbours over this week for a green day and red day so I can try some out. my neighbour whom gave me the book gave up on it, so hope it will also encourage her to get back on it. as she said she got feed up eating pasta. (not that she does not like meat and everything else)
will weigh myself on the 7th jan for the first time and see if i have lost a pound or two:j
regards
welshspencer0
