Found this on the web "White Button Mushrooms are not as well researched and there is conflicting reports about whether they help prevent or cause cancer. They do contain a natural carcinogen that cannot be cooked or washed off. These natural toxins are not found in other mushrooms".

I've never heard this before and find it quite worrying. Both myself and my DDs eat them by the pound, both raw and cooked...........perhaps we ought to have a rethink!!

yikes that is quite worrying, as we also eat loads of them. I always thought they were super good for you, especially raw. I had a quick google too and it did say alot of Asian mushrooms were used in cancer treatment. I couldnt find anything about button or closed cup though. Sorry Catt for doubting you, I really beleived that Chem teacher lol.
I suppose theres loads of thing conflicing on how one minute they are bad for you then the next they are good for you. I wont worry about it too much.

hello and welcome to newbies and bigs hugs to everyone especially lo bush and skint catt

Here is my menu for today: (extra easy)

    Breakfast: fresh pineapple

Lunch jacket chips (cooked last night and warmed up in the microwave) served with chopped bacon and 28g cheese (HEA).

Tea. More (freshly cooked) jacket chips, 3 fried eggs and ham

Pudding - Greek 0% yogurt stirred through with about 10ml of lemon curd and served with two chopped up alpen light choc fudge bars (HEB)

Drinks: black coffee / diet lemonade / water

Syns lemon curd and some sweet chilli sauce (25ml) so 3.5 syns for that. not sure on the syn value of the lemon curd but it was very yummy in the yogurt (didnt need the alpen lights).

off to watch ER now. will catch up properly at weekend :j

Hello, I've just made this rice pudding recipe I found a few pages back, it is lush. Thanks to the person who posted it:T

In fact it's so good I don't feel it can be free (apart from the HEa's). Can anyone confirm it, surely we can;t lose weight eating this?

    Rice Pudding3 - 4oz pudding rice
    1¼ pints skimmed milk (2 Healthy A’s)
5/6 tablespoons of sweetener (or to taste)
    pinch nutmeg and/or cinnamon

Put everything in a slow cooker and stir. Cook on low all day or on High for about 4/5 hours.

    Evening all,

I've had a green day today and also discovered I love cous cous, the Ainsley Harriot stuff is gorgeous.

    B - Hifi bar
L - Mixed salad, cottage cheese, another hifi bar, cous cous
D - SW chips and a crunchie bar

I havent had much of an appetite today, didnt yesterday either. I hope by not eating loads that it doesnt affect my weight loss?

Hi, it is free as long as you measure the milk as HEA's, I suppose as long as you werent eating pounds and pounds of it everyday, you would probably just end up really bloated if you eat too much, so yes you should still lose weight, so enjoy.

Can I just ask how much this makes? I have a 6 litre (big one) slow cooker and would love to try this recipe in it, but I think my SC needs to be half full. Its hard to tell with rice pudding as it swells up so much.

Thanks, i have a large slow cooker & I doubled the recipe as OH was drooling when I mentioned rice pudding, 3 of us have had an average portion and there's plenty left for tomorrow.

    It is very filling btw.
