Mina , Its so strange you mention trytophan and how its in chocolate , bananas , cheese .

My medical condition is a vascular condition , basically in my brain and I get swelling of the vessels , a bit like migraine but a bit more severe , as in it gives me neourological symptoms , finding walking difficult ,loosing my balance and numbness.

So I am on these pills and I also have to avoid certain foods that cause the vessels to swell . These foods are all the trytophan foods.

Oh, Mirry - that sounds like a nightmare. I get migraines when I have chocolate sometimes - maybe it does a similar thing??? Not sure!

    Morning all,

I'm sorry too to hear of the problems some people are having. I too followed the plan to the letter last week and didnt lose which was a slap in the face as I was feeling ill too.

I had a blow out yesterday and now I'm paying for it as I was woken up at 7am with terrible tummy ache and a bloated feeling. It's gone now but I'm worried about eating in case it makes it worse.

I've had a hifi bar so far today as I've only just got up and I was hungry plus a cup of tea, I dont know what else I'll be eating but we have plenty of meat, veg and low fat yoghurt in to snack on.

If you love the taste of chocolate but it gives you headaches, have you tried carob instead? it tastes very similar but doesnt have the same chemicals in it which cause some people problems. I've seen it on sale in Holland and Barratt

My boyfriend was with me! I would NEVER try driving without him, wouldnt dare! The looks he gave me when we finally parked up were classic, if looks could kill and all that!

When I was learning my OH put me on his insurance so that I could get some extra practice. We used to go to the test centre to practice reversing into the bay (in case that came up on my test). One time, the test bay was busy so we practiced in another part of the car park and I managed to reverse the car into a post  My OH was not very impressed but I was going really really slow so there was no big dent, just a little mark!! :rotfl:

    Oh god sounds awful!

I've taken out my own insurance and put my boyfriend on it so I can do all the driving now but he can take over if needs be at any time. I'm driving into work and back every day which is good practise plus we're going into town later to Asda for the weekly shop.

My trouble isnt my actual driving, both my OH and my instructor have said that, it's my nerves, I panic the second something goes wrong and then it's game over, I almost lost the plot yesterday when the sun came out and I got dazzle coming up to a roundabout, what a muppet!

If I didnt let my nerves get the better of me and I stayed calm I more than likely would have passed first time!

It's a bit quiet in here this morning! lol

SW is going right out the window today, my tummy ache is back and OH thinks I might be a bit "bunged up" lol

I dont feel like eating anything at all now

What are good foods to get things moving again and prevent bloating? I guess baked beans are off the menu for a while! lol

Its very interesting about mood, generally I am in good spirits, but the last couple of weeks of not losing and working hard at it , has made me quite depressed around food.
I eat the most varied diet of anyone I know, just cut out everything I really like altogether, like chocolate.
    I dare not touch it!
This morning I've eaten 2 wheetabix (I know they are allowed), but once again know I've shot myself in the foot, its another thing that puts my weight up .............................. but I so enjoyed it.
I go to bed and fall asleep every night (for about 8mths) listening to Paul Mckenna 'I can make you thin' and am seriously thinking I might be getting confused/mixed messages???
I follow SW yet Paul says I can eat what I want when I want, not that I do. Will not listen to him for a week and see if that helps.
    How crazy does that sound????
I have also started to do easy exercise, not that anyone else would call it that, but to me it is more than I have done all year.
I start to dread every Sunday knowing Monday is my weigh in day.
It really shouldn't be like that, so I need to re-think.
Thanks everyone for your support, it meant so much last night when I felt even more awful than this morning.

Hi Lillie. I'm sorry it's so frustrating for you at the moment. It's a horrible place to be in, feeling that you've no power to influence the changes you're trying to get at.

I really think your thyroid is playing a huge part in this - especially if you're waiting for a medication review. It sounds to me like if you weren't doing the plan you'd be in the position of most people with underactive thyroid dysfunction and piling on the pounds - just staying the same is a huge success if your thyroid is wonky!

And don't forget thyroid plays a huge part in mood. By that I'm not at all saying that you're feeling low because of your thyroid, but it could be feeding into the problem. Looking at the problem from an entirely different view... have you tried to boost your mood in different ways? I find I lose more weight when I'm happier(!) and there's also good research which shows that.

I'm thinking of practical things like a little bit of exercise to raise the endorphines, eating foods high in B3, B6 and a substance call tryptophan (bananas, spinach, cheese, chocolate) which is metabolised into a chemical which influences the receptors of the brain associated with mood, and having a look at whether you can challenge or find evidence against the sense of your diet not working and it being in control of your life. We know that feeling more satisfied with life increases our sense of being in control of things, and feeling in control of things increases our success at meeting our goals, so.... I always start with how I'm feeling in myself and let it filter through to my dieting habits.

I don't know if that's helpful or not - it's been helpful for me, but I'm not you, so I'm aware I'm probably over-generalising! :o

EDIT: link to evidence-based information on mood and food, for anyone interested: http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/food-and-mental-health/
We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars........................
