Hello, im on my first week of SW and doing the extra easy plan and i want to cook beef stew for dinner i have the recipe

    1. Peel the shallots. Heat a large pan sprayed with Fry Light, add the shallots and fry for 5 minutes until browned. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
    2. Slice the carrots, place in the pan with the steak, tomato puree, bouquet garni and 852ml/1½ pints water. Cover and simmer for 1½ hours.
    3. Halve the mushrooms, add to the pan with the shallots and simmer for a further 20 minutes. Sprinkle over the gravy granules and stir until thickened. Season to taste, sprinkle with parsley and serve.

BUT i cannot cook to save my life and need a few pointers

SO do i use a frying pan to add the steak and carrots etc? or are they talking about a saucepan?

AND what does simmer mean? is it number 3/4 on an electric hob? Are they talking about cold watewr or boiling water?

    Many many thanks
    vicky.

    1. Peel the shallots. Heat a large frying pan sprayed with Fry Light, add the shallots and fry for 5 minutes until browned. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
    2. Slice the carrots, place in a saucepan with a tight fitting lid with the steak, tomato puree, bouquet garni and 852ml/1½ pints cold water. Put the lid on and cook on heat 3 or 4 so that it gently and steadily bubbles for 1½ hours.
    3. Halve the mushrooms, add to the saucepan with the shallots and simmer (as before, but with the lid off) for a further 20 minutes. Sprinkle over the gravy granules and stir until thickened. Add some salt and pepper to taste , sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve.

    Many many thanks

Well done for wanting to give it a go by the way - you should find that this is very tasty, and only has syns in the gravy granules, otherwise it is free. If you have leftovers, they will freeze really nicely.

    Have fun!

The mushroom strogonoff in this months magazine is lovely and you could just add the beef to it on an EE day.

I thought there was a mushie one in the last mag, but i gave it to my oh to take home with him (over 100 miles away). im going to do this and see if it works as stroganoff....

slowly fry off some onion til soft, add mushrooms, garlic and strips of beef, add paprika, dash of brandy (1syn) salt and pepper, then let it cool a tiny bit then add fromage frais to make it creamy, how does that sound? wil let you know later if its tasty.

    thanks anyway

    Nic

Hi - Hope someone can help me.

I have done SW in the past but now have various medical issues which mean i cannot eat fibre.

I emailed SW to ask them this Q but the anwer was somewhat waffling !

Basically can i do SW wirthout fibre ? so for my healthy B's i would have 2 slices of white bread instead of brown ?

This would be the only real change i think - eating white versions of stuff instead of brown/ wholewheat ?

I can eat dairy, meat and pasta but no veg or fruit or cereal - rice krispies are ok.

I know i would be deviating from the SW allowed list and realsie this may make weight loss slightly slower but would it still work ?

    Has anyone done this ?

I really really do not reccomend it, because white bread is completely refined and not good for you, it won't help your weightloss at all.

can you eat nuts and seeds? you can have these as a HEb on a green day. Also you can use your HEbs for meat on a green day, and extra portions of cheese.
What about canned soup are you allowed that? there are certain varities which can be a HEb on either day.
Think about eating olive oil as well as a HEb.
