nic - you don't always have to brown the meat, though sometimes it can look a little pale when its cooked. Personal choice. They are very worth it - and the lovely people on the Old Style Board will help - they've got a thread for SC questions! And a thread with LOTS of SC receipes! Don't worry!0

Retiredlady (Marion) can you tell me whats a Remoska? Is it a slow cooker?
Hi nic - no a remoska is not a slow cooker, there is a big thread on here re Remoskas, if you fancy a read! Warning - you will want one! I havn't used my big oven for months, I cook everything in my remmie:j
It is only available from Lakelands - I have copied this from their site - hope it helps - I have no personal financial interest in Lakelands or Remoska (just wish I did:rotfl:) but can not sing its praises enough!
Standard Remoska® Electric Cooker
”Truly wonderful”... ”A joy to use”... ”What a gem!”
It's clear from the hundreds of letters received since we introduced the best kept secret from the Czech Republic 4 years ago, that life would not be the same without Remoska!
It cooks better than an oven, and is positively miserly with electricity - in fact, the Remoska is so versatile that your oven will hardly ever be need to be switched on. Roast chicken pieces (crispy skin, flesh as soft as butter); succulent lamb chops with golden roasted potatoes; toad in the hole and fish bake. For ‘snacky moments’, rustle up toasted sandwiches, baked potatoes, 8" pizzas from frozen; reheat ready meals in their foil dish, you can even produce light, moist sponge cakes and delicious scones.
The Remoska has been around since before the Second World War, surviving 40 years of nationalisation until being rescued in 1990 by two Czechs, who scraped together all they had to buy the machinery.
Each Remoska is individually made and tested by skilled workers in a small Czech factory; there’s no production line.
The stainless steel lid, which houses the element, does all the work, controlling the venting of steam developed during cooking.
You can see what's going on through the glass window and you'll be impressed by how clean it is in use, with virtually no cooking smells either.
The pan is coated with Teflon® Classic for easy release. Being so compact, it is frequently packed up and taken anywhere there's a 240V electricity supply, which makes it just the thing when cooking away from home. Pans are dishwasher safe. When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0 -
Ossireo - many thanks for the info on mug shots. Tesco have an offer on them at the moment - you buy 4 and save 42p. Have never tried them before but bought the pasta tom and herb and the noodles spicy sweet and sour.
red day
For dinner I am having some lamb chops (cut off all the fat) with actifry chips (syn the pots which I will have to weigh and the oil which is 1.5 syns) and a huge salad of various leaves, pickled onions, tomato and cucumber (free).
supper will be my usual cheese and tomato toastie (hea and heb plus free tomato) and I may add some ham to it (also free)
snacks will be apples or other fruit and my tspn of manuka honey (1 syn) which I have to take - hospital instructions.
Someone on here said passata is free. Now I hate ketchup but love worcester sauce (but it is runny and I wanted something thicker!) so I bought some passata this morning. I put a small amount in a container and added worcester sauce to it and zapped it with a small blender. It is gorgeous.
But here I need help - does anyone know if you can freeze passata as there is so much of it and it was quite expensive so I don't want to waste it.
Well done everyone on the weight losses."Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm Welsh" Cerys Matthews0 -

sorry dont know how to double quote, but thanks to SC and Marion for the info. I feel a bit better about keeping it.
I thought there would be a thread somewhere on MSE (theres one for everything lol) but I couldnt find it, so ill have a look when wee one is having a nap later. The Remoska sounds great, ill look into that a bit more also lol, I have a really old electric oven and I dont think its very economical with the Leckie, so I was looking into cheaper alternatives without having to buy a new cooker.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

Many thanks. I will put it in an ice cube tray then I can thaw out what I need when I need it. By the way if you make SW free mint sauce and you've got a bit left, you can freeze that in an ice cube tray."Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm Welsh" Cerys Matthews0 -
