I was sorting out a lot of recipes taken out of mags etc over the years and have dumped all of them. But, found this recipe for custard:

    3 teaspoons cornflour (3 syns)
10 tablespoons skimmed milk (1.6 syns)
    0.5 teaspoon vanilla essence*
    0.25 teaspoon yellow food colour*
    artificial sweetener to taste

mix cornflour with 2 tbspns milk. In a saucepan, combine remaining milk, vanilla essence, food colouring and sweetener. Add cornflour "mix" and gradually bring to the boil. Stir all the time and simmer for 2 minutes. Serve hot or cold

Is there a syn value on the essence* or the food colour*? Anyone know?

I thought I could use the cornflour and milk to make a sauce for a pie. I know I am not allowed milk but will check this with the consultant first. Anyone know a different way of making a sauce of this sort without milk?

So sorry about your news judders.

sorry about your news judderman. I've been made redundant twice over the years. First time I panicked and thought the world would end and I could only do the same job I currently did. Second time had very different circumstances and I ended up deciding to completely re-start my career in an area I was interested in. I went from being a 28k middle manager to a 7k part time administrator. 9 months on, I love the organisation, I've re-trained and I'm now also teaching adults in evening class and this year should be the opportunity to start going back up the ladder.

    Food for today on EE:

    B: Muller choc/orange (1.5 syns?)
L: leftover chilli and rice (free)
D: probably roast pork, frylight potatoes, gravy (1 syn), peas

Also had a muller layered yog at 1.5 syns and 1 Thorntons chocolate at 3 (which wasn't even nice). Had some ham as a snack.

Probably have some porridge and milk at some point.

    Hello

I went to my first meeting last night and it has left me sooooo confused!
The lady that ran it had a little chat with the newbies and then we sat with the rest of the group and they talked about their week.
There was no information given to us and she just said to do the extra easy plan BUT i can't for the life of me understand what im supposed to be eating. I have looked through the books and i'm even more confused.

Can anyone explain what i am ment to be doing?

So far i get that you can have 1 choice from Healthy extra A and one from B.....is this with any meal ?

I also get we can have syns but do we HAVE to have them?

But what do i get to eat for main meals? the super free and free foods?

    Please help me!!!!
    many thanks.

it is 1 A choice and 1 B choice per day on EE, you can eat at any time of the day. Doesn't have to be with a meal if you don't want to.

yes, it gives you variety and also the small amounts of sugars and fats to keep your food balanced

On EE you can eat anything off the red free list on the same plate as anything off the green free list, basically as long as it is free on either red or green, you can eat it at a main meal. You don't have to have both red and green free foods, but it is now one of the plan choices. You can also eat as much of the superfree foods as you like. The recommendation is a third of a plate of superfree foods, but it isn't mandatory.

You can have 5-15 syns a day, you do not have to use them all, but should use you healthy extras, 1 a and 1 b each day as these provide vital calcium and fibre into each day.

You use your syns to add to what you can already eat from the free food lists.
Start of with 15...you may find it hard to eat the full 15 syns, if so drop you limit to 10 and see how you do with that.

It is a shame you didnt get a good new member talk, i did the talk for my consultant this week as she was under the weather and trusted me enough to do it for her, i spent over half an hour explaining each plan, red, green and easy extra, answered any questions and tried to make it as easy as possible to understand.

    3 steps,
1-free food=as much and as often as you like
2-Healthy extras= to top up your fibre and calcium intake
3-Syns =for anything that doesnt fit into the first 2 steps.

Plan ahead and you will be fine

To be honest vicvic I'm surprised she's told you that! Mine told the newbies NOT to get into EE because it will confuse you!

I'd just start picking red or green. Then you look at that side of your book only and you can have anything and everything at any time from the free/superfree pages.

Then you can have TWO Healthy B's and TWO Healthy A's every day - these can be whatever and whenever you want them (you should use all for a balanced diet)

Then on top of that you can have between 5 and 15 syns a day - sauces, sweets, alcohol etc - anything you fancy!!!

We'll help you get there - plan tomorrow whichever way you like, write it on here, tell us which day you're doing and we'll guide you and explain if anythings wrong.

We all need to start with the basics - and these are them! Red or Green!

she didnt explain anything about red and green plan she just said to do EE, i think thats why i'm confused because when she was talking to the other members they were talking about having mixed days and she hadnt told us anything about it.

Anyway i'm determined to do it because i have 6 stone to lose! I'm gonna wait till the kids go to bed to plan meals for the next few days!

    thanks for all the advice.
