Well, 10 days back onto the plan properly, and I’m feeling quite pleased with myself. Had the blip over New Year and put 2lb on, but this week I’ve lost that and about ½lb extra aswell. Back on track again.

I’m really enjoying reading the other posts to see how other people are getting on and how people approach the diet differently. I’ve only been using this forum for about a week, but it’s been quite inspirational, in a weird kind of way. Because I’m doing it alone, I don’t have anyone or anything to compare to. Although I set myself targets and I am really pleased with how I’ve done so far, this thread has been good to see how I’m doing in respect of other people.
From Day 1, I got the starter pack and the big directory and I’ve followed it religiously. There have been days where I’ve really screwed up but I suppose that’s what happens when you don’t tell the world you’re on a diet. As a rule though, 98% of the time, I have stuck to the plan. To me, if I cheat, I’m only cheating myself. I plan my day in advance to I know what day I’m having, what I’m eating, how many sins will be used up. I religiously keep a food diary every day (which I crafted up on the computer and made into a note pad) and at the end of each week I calculate how many sins out of the 105 maximum I’ve used.
What has baffled me with this forum is that very few seem to plan in advance then get into a mess. For me, when I go shopping, I take my directory and syn everything in the shop as it goes in the trolley. Obviously, things I get regularly don’t have to be done. I found a couple of times you think something will be low in syns and it isn’t. Once it’s in the house, it’s a temptation. When I get the shopping home, I write the number of syns on the packaging so it’s easy to work out when it comes to time to eat. Do I assume that not many users on here have a directory and rely on using the online calculator? It also bemuses me that lots of people will happily eat something THEN ask how many syns.
I guess everyone approaches the diet differently, but some diaries don’t seem to have much in them (either small meals or meals missing) or meals that seem to be ‘thrown’ together, if you know what I mean? Not a meal you would normally eat if you weren’t on a diet.
Anyway, that’s where I am at today, still plodding and feeling better by the day. The visible changes are becoming more noticeable and I’m getting lots of compliments, which gees you up a bit.
Good luck to everyone for their weigh ins this week – keep up the good work! :T

I too found this a rather strange post. Anyone that is following the SW plan deserves a huge pat on the back. It does indeed take a lot of planning and organisation which might not always be apparent from what is posted here.

I own just about every slimming world recipe book / syn directory that they publish! I don't carry the directory round with me when I go shopping because (1) its too heavy!! and (2) particularly in the case of m&s, the SW friendly food listed is no where to be found.

For those that are following the plan but not attending a class (such as yourself) I take my hat off to you. I struggle and I go to class each week!

I know that if I gave up class, it would be easy to fall off the wagon completely and much munch all the foods I shouldn't! The mere fact that I have to weigh in each week does, most of the time, keep me on the straight and narrow!

Everyone incorporates SW differently into their lives so what might seem strange to one person will be perfectly normal to someone else.

No-one can be 110% good all of the time especially as “life” often gets in the way but what is important is that whilst there might be the odd day or two when we indulge, SW is ingrained in us and is something to fall back on when we need it.

  • Hi,

Used to go to SW last year but haven't been able to go recently for various reasons. However having lost 5 lb's in 5 days due to having tonsilitus and turning 30 in 9 weeks (eeek!!!) i'm now trying to keep it off and lose some more. Anyway Tesco have weight watchers puddings (banoffee & choc brownies) on offer at the moment that are 3 points, any idea how many syns they are? Also how many in Walkers Baked crisps? And i know fruit juice has syns but how about smoothies made with whole fruit (eg bananas strawberries etc) low fat yogurt etc ie stuff that is free?

    Many thanks

Despite my worries I have managed to do well today. I did EE so I could eat chicken and potatoes in my casserole without worrying about weighing.

    Breakfast: Apple
Lunch: Jacket potato and cottage cheese
    Snack: Clementine
Dinner: Chicken casserole with carrots, mushrooms and tomato in the sauce, with broccoli, peas and sweetcort +Mullerlight

If you don't want to attend classes regularly again, why don't you join for one week and get the latest books and buy a syn directory while you are there? :T

Lunch - Jacket potato with cheese and baked beans (HEa and free)
Dinner - Quorn sauages, mushrooms and potato wedges all cooked in frylight (free)
Snacks - a hifi bar, melon pieces, cherries, apple and a 2 x custard cream biccies (12 syns plus free food)
Pudding - banana topped with fromage frais and one of the custard creams crumbled ontop (free and 3 of the 12 syns)

I'm hopeful that I'll have a good loss this week as my trousers which felt rather snug last Thursday now feel nice and loose around my middle again as they were before xmas, fingers crossed I've got 2lb off :)

  • Would any of you lovely people be able to help me?

I'v done SW last year, and am back on it now. Due to my shifts I cannot get to my first meeting til next week. So cannot look online.

I have a multi pack of Snackajack Caramel flavour (the crisps size packet). Can anyone tell me the syn value? I don't wanna eat them until I know the syn value but they are calling to me!!

    TIA

  • Hello everyone, it was my personal WI this morning and I have lost a pound over the past week (remember I had pork scratchings at the pub yesterday and I was too embarrassed to tell you how many!) anyway it's a pound off. Congrats to all other "losers" and good luck to those still to have WI.

I must look more closely at EE, I got the magazine, people seem to be doing well on it!
