Well, 10 days back onto the plan properly, and I’m feeling quite pleased with myself. Had the blip over New Year and put 2lb on, but this week I’ve lost that and about ½lb extra aswell. Back on track again.
I’m really enjoying reading the other posts to see how other people are getting on and how people approach the diet differently. I’ve only been using this forum for about a week, but it’s been quite inspirational, in a weird kind of way. Because I’m doing it alone, I don’t have anyone or anything to compare to. Although I set myself targets and I am really pleased with how I’ve done so far, this thread has been good to see how I’m doing in respect of other people.
From Day 1, I got the starter pack and the big directory and I’ve followed it religiously. There have been days where I’ve really screwed up but I suppose that’s what happens when you don’t tell the world you’re on a diet. As a rule though, 98% of the time, I have stuck to the plan. To me, if I cheat, I’m only cheating myself. I plan my day in advance to I know what day I’m having, what I’m eating, how many sins will be used up. I religiously keep a food diary every day (which I crafted up on the computer and made into a note pad) and at the end of each week I calculate how many sins out of the 105 maximum I’ve used.
What has baffled me with this forum is that very few seem to plan in advance then get into a mess. For me, when I go shopping, I take my directory and syn everything in the shop as it goes in the trolley. Obviously, things I get regularly don’t have to be done. I found a couple of times you think something will be low in syns and it isn’t. Once it’s in the house, it’s a temptation. When I get the shopping home, I write the number of syns on the packaging so it’s easy to work out when it comes to time to eat. Do I assume that not many users on here have a directory and rely on using the online calculator? It also bemuses me that lots of people will happily eat something THEN ask how many syns.
I guess everyone approaches the diet differently, but some diaries don’t seem to have much in them (either small meals or meals missing) or meals that seem to be ‘thrown’ together, if you know what I mean? Not a meal you would normally eat if you weren’t on a diet.
Anyway, that’s where I am at today, still plodding and feeling better by the day. The visible changes are becoming more noticeable and I’m getting lots of compliments, which gees you up a bit.
Good luck to everyone for their weigh ins this week – keep up the good work! :T0 -

I have never eaten sausages on SW diet. I understand quorn ones are free. (I tried unsuccessfully to find them in Tesco this morning. Are they fresh or frozen?) I've searched the books but can't work out which other ones are free.
Please, Please, Please, Please, which sausages are free?
This is a list of sausages which have less than 5 syns which was posted my some one else on this group. I am so sorry but don't know who it was, if they let me know I will edit this post and give them credit for it! Don't forget now that these sausages can be eaten on the EE plan with real mashed potatoes!!:T:T

Thank you so much retired lady for posting the sausage list! I do love a good sausage (IYKWIM) but had resigned myself to just eating the veggie ones for the rest of my life..
Bet you can't guess what I'll be doing tomorrow!!
Life is worth living again!! LOLSW Convert - started 20/09/09 -3 Stone to lose!!
So far lost 11 1/2lbs :j0 -
Catt - Re 'light' oil, it is light in taste and flavour, not calories, so I'm afraid it is the same quantity for the same syns as ordinary oil.0

Thanks angie, just thought I'd ask. Might buy it anyway as its on offer - its useful sometimes!0

I have read, and re-read this post several times, and I'm afraid I find large parts of it quite patronising and upsetting.
There are many people on this forum, all of whom approach the SW diet in many ways. Some are planners, some have the support of their family, others not. I am not 'bemused' by peoples differing attitudes or 'baffled' that other people do it differently to how I do.
In response to a direct question, I do not take my directory to the shop. (I do own one, and have found it to be a complete waste of money as I fail to find my way around it). I menu plan the whole week, three meals a day for all members of the family (one of whom had complex dietary needs) in advance, then write a detailed list. I therefore have no need to take my directory to the shop, but am not 'baffled' as to why you do.
Perhaps 4li5on you would like to post your planned daily menus - I am sure members of this forum who find planning less natural would find them interesting as you are doing well following Slimming World.
We would all welcome your positive comments and contributions, but perhaps with just a little less criticism?:o0 -

I'm with you on this Angie - I have done the same thing but am not sure I could have written it quite so eloquently:rolleyes:
I do a similar thing to you - decide roughly what meals we will be having during the week and shop based on that, but dont necessarily always know which meal is for which day - cant always tell with the kids who's here for tea and who's not:D anyway - well said, this is a support thread and thats what we should be doing - supporting each other rather than criticise each otherMFW 2010 Challenge (No 68) - £133.29/ £5000MFITT2 Challenge - (No 181) - Target Reduce mortgage to £130,000Mortgage @ 1.8.09 - £161160  @1.12.09 - £159052  @ 1.2.10 £157,3630 -
OH has just got home (well, to where we are, which is away from home right now) after a really long day at work with two cans of gin and tonic from M&S.
Lovely thought - but anyone know the syn value?!0 -
I agree that we all have different priorities with our menu planning. eg My
DS has severe nut/seed/egg allergy therefore he comes first in my meal planning as I would never have nuts and seeds in the house! Also every product I buy must abide by this!
I always plan meals for my kids first ;sometimes we eat the same sometimes; sometimes different. But I think a rigid plan for me would be impossible to stick to due to them always taking priority!0
